Team allegedly sets new 'Cannonball Run' record on empty highways during coronavirus lockdowns
Fox News ^ | 10 April 2020 | Gary Gastelu

A team of scofflaws has apparently taken advantage of the dramatic reduction in traffic across America due to the coronavirus pandemic to set a new coast-to-coast driving record. According to Ed Bolian, who set a record in 2013 when highway congestion was normal, the Audi A8 completed the “Cannonball Run” from New York to L.A. in 26 hours and 38 minutes, beating the 27 hours 25 minutes mark set last November by Arne Toman and Doug Tabutt.

Traffic analytics company Inrix has reported that congestion is down nearly 50 percent on average in the U.S. due to stay-at-home policies. Bolian did not reveal the identity of the drivers, but said in a YouTube video that he monitored a live track of the April 4-6 trip online and has seen timing data confirming the time.

Not really valid since the roads have far less traffic.

“The average speed over the shortest route possible between the two points would be approximately 103 mph.”

So breaking speedlimits pretty much the whole way.

One of my most enjoyable driving experiences was while on vacation in Germany. Love the Autobahn!

to northern N.J. in a 914-6 porsche in 24 hrs.
135 through most of Kansas.

Gumball Rally was a better movie than the Cannonball Run movies.

Busting shoppers roaming around the Piggly Wiggly without a mask.

I was once driving on the autobahn averaging an easy 100mph. Was over taking someone and glanced in my rear view mirror. Something behind me way in the distance. Eyes front again and eased past the car beside me felt no urgent need to swerve back into the inner lane again. Another glance in the mirror and the way behind car was now on my tail. I moved over and he cruised past me at least 40-50mph faster than I was going.

I know a guy who did Pittsburgh to Denver in an MG Spitfire.

I don’t recall his time but you could pass trucks on the underneath in that thing.

It’s time we all became scofflaws. This lockdown is officially insane. Let’s get back to work!!!

I googled that at 2790 miles, but even if it was that short, we're talking about an average of right at 105 miles per hour. That's counting in fuel breaks.

I had an MG. I could get from Disneyland to Knotts Berry Farm without breaking down. Forget about driving in the rain.

In the winter of ‘79-’80, I made a 325 mile trip that took me 15 hours.

Worst snow storm ever in my experience.
