A new book by former First Lady Barbara Bush, published posthumously, gives fresh insight into her historic romance with former President George H. W. Bush.
In Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice (That Go a Long Way), released Tuesday, their son Jeb Bush remembers an interaction between his parents shortly before his mother’s death in April 2018 — one that brought the attending hospital staff to tears.
“The last time my mom went into the hospital, I think Dad got sick on purpose so he could be with her. That’s my theory, at least, because literally a day later he showed up with an illness,” writes Jeb in the book, which is a collection of stories and advice from the Bush matriarch’s friends and family. “He came into her room while she was sleeping and held her hand. His hair was standing straight up, and he was wearing a hospital gown. In other words, he looked like hell!”

Jeb, 67, continues: “Mom opened her eyes and said, ‘My God, George, you are devastatingly handsome.’ Every nurse, doctor, staffer had to run to the hallway because they all started crying.”

And this scene plays out a million times a day in every hospital in the country, only with little, unimportant, people in the starring roles. Those little, unimportant people whose lives these self-appointed superiors had little concern for. And to heck with Yeb...

Any man who survives being shot down in combat is a hero and deserves our admiration. He was not one of our best Presidents but several Presidents since his time have made him look much better. And his relationship with Barbara was a true love story that should not be laughed at. We would be a lot better off today with more of that.
You could say Life finally got its revenge and aborted her.

Whatever. Babs Bush probably served sandwiches and coffee to the men plotting the JFK murder there in her living room. And they didn’t bother to stop talking because she came in the room.
I have to agree with you, except. Although they were a class act and sincere people, their politics was largely of the established Washington DC crowd. A disaster waiting to happen.
If there was any proof that a prior administration set up the new Administration for success, it was Reagan’s for GHW Bushes. And pappy Bush blew it..totally.

Sorry but I judge a man what he DID TO HIS COUNTRY, rather that what he did for his country. He gave us Clinton because he had no balls to keep his promise of no new taxes and throwing the Reagan legacy under the bus. After Clinton started his destruction, guess who because best buds? Thats also why I could give a crap what McCain did in Vietnam. His damage to this country was greater than his service to it.
