Saying it was against building policy, a Mercedes-Benz Superdome police officer was telling LSU football players to extinguish their victory cigars Monday night in the jubilant locker room minutes after winning the national championship when he felt LSU alum and NFL pro Odell Beckham Jr. slap him on the backside.
The 48-year-old lieutenant suppressed the urge to punch Beckham in retaliation, called the New Orleans Police Department a little more than a day later and told investigators he wanted to press charges, according to court records.
Police by Thursday morning had obtained a warrant to arrest Beckham, 27, on a count of simple battery, thrusting the mercurial wide receiver into another controversy stemming from his actions during Mondays title game.
A sworn New Orleans police statement filed in Criminal District Court recounts how the stadium security lieutenant had been ordered to enforce the Superdomes no-smoking policy when he confronted some LSU players in their locker room and asked them to put out their cigars.
The security officer told New Orleans police that one unspecified team member was argumentative at first but ultimately complied with the request. Right as that happened, the officer felt his buttocks get struck by the open hand of someone from behind.
According to police, the lieutenant momentarily wanted to retaliate by punching the offender later identified as Beckham but didnt. That description appears to have been included to illustrate that the contact on the officer was unwanted.
The officer also considered arresting Beckham but decided against it due to the jovial atmosphere of the locker room.

Nice try...
You didn’t care about whether I agreed with you, but spent two or three efforts to try to put me down for not properly identifying the entity that owned the stadium.
LOL
You couldn’t even grasp my first comment regarding an agent.
Grow up.
Officer Soy Pancho...
Soy levels are rising to unbelievable heights!!!
Lena = Pillsbury Dough Girl.
There was a character who dressed like that in the show
RENO 911. That show was a full on laugh riot!
Well, maybe she shouldn’t have been sitting on the toilet naked while eating her dinner as he walked by.
Double the concussions!
And here, I had just sat down for a nice hot lunch.
Suddenly, I lost my appetite for a good while!
Definitely - though no one would ever buy from Pillsbury Mills again if they used her.
You couldnt even grasp my first comment regarding an agent.
I believe I “grasped” your first comment regarding as agent...You claimed the “team agent”...
Maybe you need to know what you are talking about BEFORE you comment...
I’ve been around for 71 years...I have already “grown up”...Maybe you should take your own advice...
I agree with you, that Beckham is an ass. He has proven that many times.
However, his hitting the officer is assault. Disrespect for our Police, by the black community especially, is the reason the charges are being made. Black or White, you don’t slap a police officer, “campus cop,” or fireman.
LIEUTENANT
I wonder if he had six or seven stars on his collar like these goofball police officials are always wearing on tv? Thats so damn dumb, but if it makes them feel like Barney Fife, so be it!!
If it happened and was such a big deal, why did the officer wait a day to report i?
Also, and I admit this is a bit of a stretch, but being touched from behind with a cupped hand and no squeeze and nothing said in a crowded (?) locker room, how can it be proven that the touching was intentional? I recently rode on a crowded NYC subway and everyone was bumping into the people next to them (in my case hoping they were not psychos).
I don't think this is about race. I think it's about a stupid cop.
Yes, OBjr is a jerk, but he is an LSU alum and the LSU team just won the National Championship (darn!). But the cop is a bigger jerk for not knowing when to look the other way.
ML/NJ
‘America has become such an uptight, over-regulated, PC, legalistic place. Its really sad and pathetic.’
it is human nature, and dates back to the origins of civilization; those who are authorized to regulate, will in fact regulate, lest they become irrelevant...
The 48-year-old lieutenant suppressed the urge to punch Beckham in retaliation,”
And we’ll he did or he might have gotten his half a fag ass kicked in return for cold cocking. I can’t fathom this cop. Telling a victorious team to extinguish celebratory cigars. Resenting a whack on the ass from an ebullient jock. Taking a day to react to it then wanting to press charges. Damn what a homo.
Sounds like locker-room hijinks to me
That’s lieutenant COLONEL, senator.
Nothing I’ve said so far regarding instructions given to the officer have been disproven by you. You do realize that right? He was given instructions and he followed them.
The premise that he was given instructions, and he followed them seems lost on you.
I did mention team agent, but only in relationship to this officer receiving instruction. Whether it was a team agent (if the venue was at a college campus), or at a public venue agent, the concept didn’t change.
So far, your nit picking at who was in charge of the venue, hasn’t changed the instructions the officer received. And so, while you try to make it look like I don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s you that can’t seem to make the connection as to why the officer was given those instructions, and why he had to follow them.
IF a fire started due to one of these players being careless with their cigars, would the insurance company for the venue pay off? If there was a clause covering there would be no smoking in the locker rooms, no!
No excuse such as, “But it was after a big play-off win”, would have been deemed worthy of voiding the contract the venue and the facility signed.
So as I address this, I did ask you to grow up. These are things that do matter, and your gotch nonsense just doesn’t play.
As for you being 71, I would think that by that age you would grasp these concepts, but then if you don’t you don’t.
I’m 68, so the mileage you got off that 71 was negligible at best.
LOL....OK.....
