If I were PDJT I would just release the tax returns and dare the Left to find any irregularities. The longer Trump delays releasing his tax returns the more it looks like he has something to hide. He may not have anything to hide, but that is how it will appear to the average low-information voter.

The swamp just wants to make sure that the federal taxes that Trump has paid are fully compliant with Congress’s constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers. /sarc
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

“OK, can someone please explain to me this obsession with Trump’s tax returns?”

It is an attempt to provide more angles of attack on Trump.

They are trying to turn the $130,000 he paid to Stormy Daniels into an illegal campaign contribution. etc.

You HAVE heard of “principle”? I’ll bet Trump is hiding NOTHING. It’s the principle of the thing.

The fascination is due to the ability to spin it all. Basically, it's a lose-lose for PDJT - at least if you're not the fav of the media. - Trump doesn't pay his "fair share" of taxes! - Trump is a liar about his net worth! - Trump gave less than x% to charity! - Trump ! - This needs more investigating! It just gives them another opportunity to endlessly lie to the American people. They have nothing and this will give them meat that they can twist a thousand ways, which of course they will.

My guess, absolutely not based on any special, private information I don’t have, is that it’s an effort to gain a road map to his organization and, especially, vendors, customers, lenders and all others with whom he and/or the Trump organization(s) interact so his enemies can go after those other persons and entities, try to destroy them and, thereby, to get them to cease doing business with Trump, his family and organization(s). It is, after all, exactly what they do to any lesser person they can identify who either supports Trump or positively interacts with him.

The conventional wisdom is it’s to get his tax returns to show how he’s used every legal device in the book to minimize his taxes and yell, “BAD GREEDY BILLIONAIRE.” I doubt that’s it because his finances and financial adventures have been pretty much an open book for the thirty or so years he’s been a NY celeb, meaning such disclosures would have about as much an impact as proving the average bear living in the Smoky Mountains pooped in the woods yesterday

Same as with Russia, collusion, Ukraine, etc. ad nauseaum. It's not about finding actual wrongdoing. It's about creating a false impression of wrongdoing, so that the talking heads in Big Media have something to yak about. It's about smearing Trump in particular and Republicans in general with a false appearance of wrongdoing, so that the people will vote for demonicRATs.

In the mind of a leftist zelot, it is not possible to be rich without having done something unethical, imoral or down right illegal. Therefore, a billionare MUST be guilty of .... something.

The hope is that somewhere in his tax records they can find something that will “prove” just how mean he is.

Yes

The general ignorance of the taxation of wealth can be used to create the illusion that President is a wealthy criminal stealing from the poor and down trodden

"It makes the IRS a political investigation arm."

Which it already was under the Clintons and Obamas.

Years ago, in Clinton's first year, I sent a printed postcard that I'd received from a site I had donated money to. The card was demanding that Bill Clinton, known draft dodger not be allowed to attend the Veteran's Day ceremony at Arlington, and lay the wreath at the grave of the Unknown Soldier. I'd signed my real name and address to it. The following year I was audited by IRS...very funny because I had filed the short form for that year, owned nothing, and had nothing to claim. I always figured the audit had to do with that card. I've never been audited since, and in my retirement, I always file the short form.

Trump has been audited up one side and down the other, and there’s nothing to “find.” This is just harassment. They obviously plan to come at him from every side, like the pack of wild dogs they are.

I had a lib explain to me that they want to see his taxes to prove whether he's had income from foreign governments that would prove he's a compromised President and must be removed from office.
