To which it should be added-— there has to be an entire section of IRS devoted every year to Trump and Trump, Inc. tax filings, business and personal.

This is true even more so for large corporations, and other billionaires-—example: Pfizer, Inc NYC. Can one imagine the number of employees it takes to monitor the quarterly filings alone, along with healthcare related reports, medicare, medicaid, state subsidies of supplied medicines under federal laws... etc. Thousands of fedgov irs people, as a matter of fact.

Or, Exxon, or... WalMart (where IRS has a Bentonville HQ interface-— kid you not, and a subcontractor from a Cary, NC company, SAS!).

“”””””Just heard now on the radio that Trump lied on the written responses to Mueller.”””””””””””

Yet Mueller and his 17 angry democrat lawyers didn’t see it that way or he would have already been sent to prison.

Actually... The rule of law wins.

In lower courts it’s easy to find judges who are politically Democrat leaning sycophants willing to rule against Republicans and Trump in particular. The supreme’s (with a few exceptions... Like Ginsberg) typically follow the constitution and established law. That’s why Gore lost.

They just want to examine his deductions and make hay about business losses.

It would mark an expansion of their power.

Currently, the IRS can be all over you about deductions or tax status (like Lois Lerner was), or your past tax bills.

But, this would let law enforcement use all of the accumulated IRS information for the purpose of investigating other past actions than financial/tax reporting. If they can do it to the President, for transparently political reasons, they’ll be able to do it to anyone, in time. Slippery slope.

In the non-financial area, FISA was supposed to prevent, or at least control, weaponized surveillance, a different sort of privacy invasion. It looks as if the FISA process was defective in its relation to the President. Do you think that you’d get less deference from any court-mediated violation of your privacy, whether for communication or for IRS filings?

The Left just wants to see if there’s anything they can spin to embarrass the President.

The Left doesn't want or expect to have Trump allow them to see his tax returns.

The JUST want his public REFUSAL.

OK, can someone please explain to me this obsession with Trump’s tax returns?

Opposition research for 2020. Nothing more.

Based on other stories we’ve seen my best guess is they hope to find discrepancies between some of his federal tax filings and his state tax filings.

You don’t pay taxes on your “net worth”, only the current year’s income.

I think that if the Supreme Court rules that President Trump has to release his tax returns there will soon be a law passed whereby the Supreme Court justices will have to open their kimonos and publish their tax returns.

Be careful SC.

Yes, that’s actually my point. :)

Lower courts don’t have a reputation to uphold the way the SCOTUS does. For them, presidents come and go, but bad rulings damage the respect for the court for a very long time.

Whether requiring Trump to release tax returns to on a primary ballot, or trying to force him to release tax returns for political reasons, it is all wrong.

I have no problem with a court requiring the release of a tax return if it is to be used in a criminal trial, but is must be kept confidential to everyone but the jury. Taxes are not to be released unless so directed by the taxpayer, they are not public record documents.

It’s a “fishing expedition”. It’s an obsession with Trump. They have no idea what they will find. They can “spin” almost anything into something negative.

Also, is Trump accused of breaking some law or is this a fishing expedition in which Trump’s private financial information is leaked to the public to discredit him.
