Cuomo signs measure allowing New York to press charges despite presidential pardon

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed a measure Wednesday permitting New York state to press charges against those who have received presidential pardons.

The measure was passed to prevent President Trump's ex-aides facing prison time or potential sentencing from receiving pardons and avoiding criminal punishment, NBC News reported. The network added that the legislation was a direct response to the president's consideration of giving his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, a pardon.

Manafort is serving in a federal prison after being convicted on bank fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy charges. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has also indicted him on state mortgage fraud charges.

The New York State Assembly and the state's senate passed the bill in May.

It ends the "double jeopardy loophole," which prevents people from being prosecuted for crimes the federal government has already tried them for, according to NBC News. Under the legislation, state prosecutors can charge defendants who worked in the president's administration, campaign, nonprofit or businesses -- including those pardoned by the president -- if the alleged crimes occurred in New York.

Its political retribution and its a bill of attainder. Democrats do what Democrats do.

But Democratic presidential pardons are likely still gold and untouchable.

So if New York (and probably others states before long) is effectively nullifying presidential pardons what’s the point of even having executive clemency in the first place?

Wonder if this maneuver by New York can be brought before the USSC?

... and its a bill of attainder.

It could well be. It'll make for an interesting court challenge.

I predict this will boomerang on NY liberals. These type of vindictive laws always do. Trump was able to fill so many judicial picks because Tom Daschle was the first senator to filibuster judicial nominations, Harry Reid employed the nuclear option, and Joe Biden employed the Biden rule that worked against Merrick Garland.

Cuomo? Cuomo?

Isn’t this the guy who just used the word “nigger” on TV the other day?

Maybe I’m wrong. Nope. I’m not. He did.

I am looking forward to the day Cuomo is indicted second only to the day he is convicted.

Think of the rights we lost because Democrats want to get rid of Trump.

We lost the right lawyer/client privilege. We lost the right to face your accuser. Now double jeopardy. They want to do away with the electoral college.

Democrats will burn the Constitution to gain power.
