Andrew Kohut, the founding director of Pew Research Center and its president from 2004 to 2012, was one of the nations leading pollsters. He died in 2015. ... Here is one of those articles, originally published on Aug. 8, 2014.
Forty years ago today, Richard Nixon announced his resignation from the nations highest office, making that decision in the face of almost certain impeachment by the House and plummeting public support, as a majority of Americans called for his removal from office. But it happened in stages.
Nixon had won reelection in 1972 by a landslide and began his second term with a lofty 68% Gallup Poll approval rating in January 1973. But the Watergate scandal which started with an effort to bug the Democratic National Committee office at the Watergate Hotel and subsequent efforts to cover it up quickly took a heavy toll on those ratings, especially when coupled with a ramp-up in public concerns about inflation. By April, a resounding 83% of the American public had heard or read about Watergate, as the president accepted the resignations of his top aides John Ehrlichman and H.R. Haldeman. And in turn, Nixons approval ratings fell to 48%.

-Trump's situation isn't anything close in terms of illegality to Watergate.
-In 1973-1974 there was no alternative media. Everyone got their news from the MSM.
-With regard to the inflation situation, it seems likely that public sentiment may have indeed been swayed by prices:
In addition, the US economy fell into a recession during this time, in part fueled by the oil crisis of 1973, as seen in this chart of quarter over quarter annualized GDP growth(contraction) rates:
-In addition, Egypt's October 1973 attack of the Bar Lev Line in the Sinai Peninsula, and Syria's offensive in the Golan Heights led to Nixon responding with Operation Nickel Grass, a strategic airlift to deliver weapons and supplies to Israel in order to replace its materiel losses. This lead to an Arab oil production cut and an oil embargo against Israel's allies: the United States, the Netherlands, Rhodesia, South Africa, and Portugal. While I don't recall, I'm sure the MSM used this to further fuel anti-Nixon sentiment.
I am sure we will soon be witness to oodles of Nixon comparisons. Hopefully this history lesson helps cut through the BS.
Trump is just like Nixon in that he’s going to win 48 states.
“We’ve really got Trump this time! It’s all over for him now!”
It doesn’t matter. It’s about public perception. The left controls the media.
Already the polls are showing a shift in favor of impeachment.
Nope. It’s not going to happen.
This is the latest ‘manufactured crisis’ by Dems out of the 1,095 ‘crisis days’ we’ve had since be was sworn in.
Keep stabbing him - he’s only getting STRONGER via ‘We The People.’ 65 MILLION STRONG and GROWING!!
Dems are going DOWN in a HUGE way. It’s gonna be HUGE! ;)
Trump. 2020. Landslide. MAGA! KAG! :)
Troll Alert. Check his posts.
As if this is anything like Watergate...
And at least one person believes the polls that were done by the same MSM that want us to believe Trump did something wrong.
The AG needs to take a whiz or get off the pot on this.
Biden by his own admission, demanded quid pro quo. He got it, thus participating in a crime.
Indict the SOB.
If it can be proven Obama was part of the plot, then indict him also.
Please do, Diana. I encourage you to do so. Thorough research is the antidote to many things.
Nixon didnt have the internet and an active community that cared about the truth (now that we can get at it)
The other issue is that Nixon WAS aware of the break-in and tried to cover it up which, like Clinton, was worse than the actual action perpetrated.
Trump has committed no crime - unlike Clinton.
And like Bill Clinton (and unlike Nixon), if impeached, Trump will be exonerated.
Not YOU, Bob - the other poster. ;)
The only way this happens again is, in part, if the economy turns under Trump like it did under Nixon. The left has been BEGGING for a downturn, starting with Bill Mahler, because they know sitting Presidents with a good economy get re-elected. Nixon may have weathered his self-inflicted wound like Clinton did, if inflation/oil price rises demand didnt choke off growth. Indeed, Nixon’s polling trends mirror the economic trends.
Ahhh...I humbly apologize....this sorta thing gets me worked up...
No worries! :)
Watergate was every bit the crock of shit that we’ve got going on now. Republican pussies caved...like they seem to be doing now.
I’m interested in your views.
The American people are wise to the Democrat media’s tricks.
Not likely to fall for them again.
