Second court rules in favor of Boris Johnson's suspension of Parliament
The Hill ^ | 09/06/19 | John Bowden

Posted on 09/06/2019 8:06:06 AM PDT by yesthatjallen

A panel of three judges dismissed a case brought by Britain's former Prime Minister John Major and businesswoman Gina Miller arguing that current Prime Minister Boris Johnson's attempt to suspend parliament through prorogation is an abuse of power, Bloomberg reported Friday.

The case will be appealed to the U.K.'s highest court, handing Johnson a second legal victory and setting up a final battle over parliament and likely the fate of the U.K.'s exit from the European Union (EU) in the Supreme Court.

Miller slammed the ruling in a press conference Friday, according to Bloomberg, and vowed to continue the battle before the nation's highest court.

“Today we stand for everyone, we stand for future generations, and we stand for representative democracy,” she reportedly said. “To give up now would be a dereliction of our responsibilities.”

Considering the globalist trend in England, I'm surprised three judges dismissed the case.

Dear Gina Miller:

The Brexit vote WAS representative democracy.

The results of representative democracy only count when the Leftists win.

Another EU attempt to stop the process goes down in flames.

Damn, they must be getting annoyed in Brussels.

Does Brussels control the UK Supreme Court?

they have decided that the UK cannot and must not leave, or at least not without perpetual EU control.
What many fail to see is the ever-closer-integrated EU project is just a phase in a World Union project whose promoters unashamedly discuss over caviar and rare wine. Letting the British Isles go free would be the first of a string of nationalist peasant revolts as an alternative to thr ever more totalitarian superstate. The USSR and China were founding members but the Soviet Union fell to corruption and nationalist reaction to oppression.
Hillary, Obama, Soros, Gate and all the euro weenies were on board until MAGA.

BREXIT is the real start of WWIII to the globalists.

John Major, the British George H.W. Bush, rears his ugly head!

Is there any doubt who’s side Margaret Thatcher would be on?

But, I was told by other FReepers that democracy is "mob rule" and having "a Republic" magically makes things better and ensures "the rights of the minority" are respected.

How can she even suggest this when the majority voted to leave the EU? The fact she is going against the will of the people is dereliction of her responsibility.

The Queen approved the prorogation. That should have been the end of it. Who do these upstart judges think they are, second-guessing the Queen. (Yes, I'm being serious.)

Of course not. It's having a constitutionally limited government that does that.

Whether direct democracy in the form of a referendum is a good idea is an open question, in this case I’d say it was cause Parliament would NEVER have voted to leave the UK, I wouldn’t mind a national referendum here to build the wall.

The trouble is the referendum was not in any way binding, under the UK unwritten constitution the House of Commons is supreme.

So while even all but the worst assholes will respect the result to some degree (Corbyn only because he is afraid of losing the KEY Labour Leave vote which sadly returned to him in May’s snap election), the details were always up in the air and course they would try to mess with it to whatever extent they could up to and including a second referendum to try and overturn it.

And no it’s not Johnson’s fault, but it is to a large extent May’s, I was too easy on her. And of course Cameron shouldn’t have given Clegg his God damn Fixed terms Parliament Act.

EXACTLY! But facts like that don't matter to FReepers who scream at the top of their lungs that having a "Republic" magically means "the rights of the minority are respected and the government can never take them away" blah blah blah.

Obviously it doesn't mean that, Australia is NOT a Republic, whereas a hellhole dictatorship like Zimbabwe that tortures and oppresses its citizens IS a Republic.

Words mean things, and I don't when conservatives invent their own definitions for words anymore than when liberals do it. Simply being a "Republic" by itself does NOT guarantee freedom for individuals no matter how loudly they scream that it does.

>> Whether direct democracy in the form of a referendum is a good idea is an open question, in this case I’d say it was cause Parliament would NEVER have voted to leave the UK, I wouldn’t mind a national referendum here to build the wall. <<

We have the same problem in the USA. There are examples of governing by direct democracy, a notable example being amending the California Constitution by Referendum vote. The problem is the political elites just ignore it and have some activist judge overrule it if they get a result they don't like, obvivous examples being when the majority of citizens voted to cut off benefits for illegal aliens and ban gay marriage.

The bottom line is the problem is not we're "in danger" of becoming a direct democracy, as some screwy FReepers allege -- but that the OPPOSITE is happening -- democratic decisions of the people are being overruled by the elites.

It seems clear to me that we need MORE democracy in America, not less. Weird that so many FReepers seem vehemently opposed to that, claiming its "mob rule", and argue that the elite career politicians in government know whats best for us and we should shut up and comply with whatever they want. You would assume conservatives wouldn't be caught dead arguing that viewpoint, but tons of people on "our side" do exactly that.

Not me, I loathed that CINO since day one. She was far more interested in sucking up to gaystapo activists and Islamofacists that doing anything remotely conservative. I never bought the "it doesn't matter that she is PERSONALLY opposed to Brexit, she has pledged to carry out the will of the people" argument. Makes as much sense as hiring as a gung-ho vegan who preaches "CHICKEN CAUSES CANCER!!" to run KFC, and then acting shocked when the outspoken vegan activist does a poor job selling chicken. :-)

Sigh, this court case had no eu involvement.

And if you read the mood in Brussels, Paris, etc the other 27 do not want to stop the UK leaving. They now want the UK to leave on October 31
