Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died of a deadly combination of alcohol and drugs, an autopsy conducted by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner shows.
Skaggs, 27, was found dead July 1 in a Southlake hotel while the Angels were in town to play the Texas Rangers.
The autopsy and toxicology report released Friday show Skaggs had a combination of fentanyl, Oxycodone and Oxymorphone in his system.

“He had a triple death wish going on....”
_____
Quadruple. Don’t forget the alcohol =>
“His cause of death is due to the mixture of ethanol, fentanyl and Oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents,” meaning he choked on his vomit.
I agree. He had Tommy John surgery. Got used to strong pain meds. ?
Just wanted to clear up your meaning. Is that OK with you?

[with terminal aspiration of gastric contents]
Yikes
Unfortunately this sort of thing was likely.
Young healthy men usually don’t just die.
“...with terminal aspiration of gastric contents, meaning he choked on his vomit.”
In short, he pulled a John Bonham.
Live like a Rock Star, Die Like a Rock Star.
Are people dying from hydrocodone?
Sure but, only the ones who combine it with other drugs...

...
He’s a member of the 27 club.
I had a buddy that went out that way. Ripped the IV out and checked himself out of the ER against doctors advise. Then went home and choked out on his bathroom floor. Wasn’t found for days. What a way to go.
I had a teacher back in high-school. He had been a football star at some big college (60’s??). He said his senior year he was pretty much drugged up the entire time. On pain pills and stuff right after a game, uppers for practices, pain meds afterwards, and then better drugs to get him through the game. All managed by the team doctors.
I can’t remember if he quit in college or just didn’t go on to the pros. I do remember he said playing football just wasn’t worth having to listen to the shadows on the walls talk to him!
Skaggs was rather injury prone. He had spent some long stints in rehab. And although he was a very good pitcher, at times, he was also inconsistent...frustratingly so. I wonder how much the drugs played into that.
A real shame...
How did he think he was going to pitch the next day?
Wonder how often pro athletes are tested for drugs ?
Did you even read Post #2 before you asked me that?
Yes I did, but like I wrote before, I just didnt want to misunderstand.
I have a few hundred beers a year and maybe 50 or 60 bottles :)
I was thinking it was time to increases a little.
It’s not my business what any man decides to drink or drug or mix.
But mixing has a huge price.
I see. No worries. I would have posted his original comment at the top of my post, but Im on an iPhone and I cant cut/paste right now. :-)
I’m guessing things have changed a lot since the sixties. I have no idea on the drug testing policies. Although I think most of them are planned in advance and not surprise tests.
The sports radio guys (several are former athletes) say the the drug tests are easy to beat. And they aren’t really catching the drug users, just the stupid ones!
