It is now known that Dmitriy posed no threat and was open carrying the rifle. It was not pointed at anyone, nor was any threat verbalized.
It was the manager that caused a panic by ordering an alarm pulled.

Normally this guy may not have been a threat,I guess. But right after a shooting in a charged atmosphere, not a very bright idea.

From a column I read on this a few days ago:
“Anyone who is exercising their Second Amendment rights on the basis of MUAH RAHTS!!!!!! and in such a way that the actual and reasonably foreseeable effect is to undermine generalized political support for the Second Amendment is no genuine friend of the Second Amendment. They are, rather, engaged in self-serving, attention-grabbing behavior that is detrimental to the Second Amendment. They are no ally of the Second Amendment, and no friend of mine.

Using and abusing the second amendment in this way is foolish and counterproductive. This fool was an attention whore. What next? Yelling fire in a crowded theater?
One actually has a constitutional right to stomp on the US flag. Does that strengthen our rights?

Open carry is legal in many states, including mine. It is not practical in todays society to open carry in public places. It is also not required when conceal carry will do just fine. Open carry in public will get you a disturbing the peace charge at best, shot by overzealous city police at worst.

I love great theater.
A double blind act.
A perfect reaction by the store manager.
All the people played their parts well.
Now a person open carrying can expect to be challenged in reality

Agreed that his actions were legal. He might even be acquitted. But were his actions intelligent, well considered and good for our Second Amendment advocacy? What effects might his actions and timing have on our freedoms? Was he wanting anti-Second-Amendment legislation passed...or...could it be...

Dmitriy was carrying his rifle because of all the idiots that are potential threats these days. Nothing wrong with wanting to protect himself and possibly other innocent folks. Good for you Dmitriy. I carry a hand gun in Walmart but considering the bad actors may be armed with an AR/AK maybe we should reconsider the choice of defensive weapons.

IOW, it was the Mgr. that was ‘screaming fire in a movie theater’.
Course, that point would go over most Leftists’ heads...
So, does he, or the store/insurance, get to pay for the false alarm\police\fire response & Dmitriy’s ‘pain & suffering’??

Ugh. This entire affair makes me wince. It would appear that, yes, this fellow was strictly, technically within his legal rights to behave as he did. But the timing of such a political stunt was deeply suboptimal, coming as it did so soon after two massacres by whack jobs. A panicky Walmart manager chose to turn an already iffy situation into a full-out riot of fleeing shoppers.
In the absence of any direct indication of intent to murder innocents, killing the man simply for openly carrying a slung rifle where such behavior is legal would itself have been murder. That's clear enough. But would a jury convict someone who had gunned down the young man? Would a prosecutor have even filed charges? These are interesting questions to which I'd rather not have the answers. -_-
Now, we'll discover what happens when a fuzzy charge of "making a terroristic threat" meets a basic civil right. What was that old maxim about hard cases making bad law -- or bad precedents? Nothing good can come out of this. o_o

Honestly, given the fact that a deadly shooting had just occurred at a Walmart, this guy should have switched a few of his brain cells on.
He’s sort of lucky a SWAT team did not take him down with a head shot.
