Open carry is legal in many states, including mine. It is not practical in todays society to open carry in public places. It is also not required when conceal carry will do just fine. Open carry in public will get you a disturbing the peace charge at best, shot by overzealous city police at worst.
"Practicality" is not part of the law.
It will also ensure that you are the first one shot in any mass shooting situation.
I am a big proponent of concealed carry. It makes everyone safer, including those who are not carrying, if the bad guys do not know who may or may not have a gun. As a general rule, anyone who is planning to commit a criminal or terrorist act will choose a location (a so-called "gun free zone") where his victims cannot shoot back.
If you want to open carry it is your right, but having the right to do something and it being a good idea to do something are often very different things.
