WASHINGTON (AP) The Trump administration said Monday it will end asylum protections for most migrants who arrive at the U.S.-Mexico border in a major escalation of the presidents battle to tamp down immigration.
According to a new rule published in the Federal Register , asylum seekers who pass through another country first will be ineligible for asylum at the U.S. southern border. The rule, expected to go into effect Tuesday, also applies to children who have crossed the border alone.
The rule applies to anyone arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. Sometimes asylum seekers from Africa , Cuba or Haiti and other continents arrive there, but the vast majority of migrants arriving recently come from Central America .

Outstanding!
This move is in keeping with international norms, but those norms are widely ignored.
Pretty soon, OTMs (other than Mexicans) will simply identify as Mexicans. Since their papers will be fake, who’s to say different?
Or in short - anyone seeking asylum from any nation other than Mexico had better not try at the Mexican border - they will have to find another route.
And the Ninth Circuit Court blocks it in 3.2.1....
Is our president finally going to assume his rightful Constitutional authority as a co-equal branch of government (not subservient to the judicial branch) and ignore the inevitable countermanding ruling from some Bush/Obama appointed judge?
If he isn’t going to do that, then so what? I’m supposed to cheer all these worthless gestures? It’s just Lucy pulling the football away from Charlie Brown over and over again.
They would have to sail or fly directly from their home country. If they set foot in any other country on the way they would not qualify.
IBNT claims Trump has done nothing on immigration.
Asylum for border jumpers was always illegal. Any who got it granted, should have it revoked. Mexico is legally a “safe third country” which means their valid claim - if they have one - is there, not here.
This policy about asylum is as sound and wise as anything possibly could be.
Although, since when have liberals been sound and wise?
SUPER DUPER!
a great step forward!!
and very logical too
Some appointed federal judge by 0bama will kill it.

That is a funny way of saying you must apply for asylum from the first country you hit after you escape the country you are fleeing.
Aka you flee the Germans into France. You must apply for asylum in the US from France. Makes sense, as we have the right to say no.
On another note, I thought that has been a rule FOREVER.
Our asylum laws were written for the occasional Soviet athlete or chess player who defected, not for the masses of economic "refugees" to swamp our borders and claim due process.
They're trying to exploit a loophole that was never meant for this.
All we need now is the same rule enforced by Mexico at their southern border.
yep.
Interesting article:

Theoretically we dont even need that. You cross from south america into Mexico. Great you are now safe from whatever government you were fleeing. While in Mexico apply for asylum in the US correctly, await our interview, background check, ect and we will let you know.
If yes, then welcome aboard and this might be a great time to think about citizenship. If no, then we dont need to come find you, kick you out, ect. See how that works, nice and simple, great for all involved. Funny cause that is essentially the way it is supposed to go.
Simply making it to our borders does not guarantee asylum, which is what most of those around us do not understand.
It is really not that hard to recognize that people are not from Mexico. Once it is obvious that you know that they are not from Mexico they normally admit it.
It was a fraud! It must end! Thanks, Mr. President!
