“...Torrance said they felt a rolling motion”

Very mild rolling motion in Torrance.

Where did you get that gif?

In a discussion thread on another site, a day or two ago. It didn't pretend to be related to the earthquake, it was just a funny cat .gif.

If I may intrude on your conversation, Earth shattering? I think that would be amazing!

Stay safe!

One interesting fact:
Mag about 5 occurred 3 minutes before and a Mag 5 occurred 3 minutes after this 7.1 quake...

topher, what do you think that means?

“Yesterday the liberals were saying that the rain proved that God hates conservatives. Well.....two earthquakes right in a row in liberal California. Hmmmmm.”

This is in non-liberal area of California.

It’s right by the Naval Weapons station.

Very minor movement here in Reno. My poor-person’s seismograph, a surveyors plumb hung from ceiling showed definite movement. Surprised as we are over 300 miles away.

"Whereabouts are you? Relative of mine in Torrance said they felt a rolling motion..."

.... We're about 50 miles north east of Torrance. We felt a good sized jolt then the rolling started and lasted for maybe 20-30 seconds.

You got that right about fires :-| San Diego County definitely has vulnerability in that regard,

About 2 years ago I decided to get earthquake insurance on my condo as it has a lot of equity in it...ran the calculator of damage estimates on the Temblor web site and it wasn’t too bad with 10K estimated for a 7.2 on Oceanside so went with 25K property, 5K personal property, 10K loss of use, and 50K loss assessment, with deductibles at 5%. It was the loss assessment that I was a bit more concerned about with HOA and all. Only took 5K personal property because most personal property is likely salvageable after any quake of that magnitude, and if the quake starts a fire or bursts pipes than that is actually covered by main policy (odd but true). A lot of CEA policies that are new or renew after July will see a decrease in premiums.

This isn’t close to the Hayward Fault. South end of Hayward is near San Jose. This quake was over 350 miles from San Jose and on the east side of the Sierra Nevada range.

I don’t think that earthquake science knows of a way to measure the changes in stress on other faults after a quake.

Thanks Swordmaker. Hey, y'know, the 1958 to 1998 period that Edgar Cayce talked about works out differently when his various methods of giving years is taken into account -- the period could actually be 1986-2026. Y'know, if he weren't just full of it. ;^) But don't worry, you're moving to Utah, and, uh, oh, well, everything west of Nebraska is supposed to vanish beneath the waves, sez Cayce...

Yes, I know it is not near Hayward as I am not unfamiliar with California geography (spent considerable time there), just wondering if there would be any impact.
You say “you don’t think earthquake science knows of a way to measure the changes in stress on other faults after a quake.”

Just wondering if anyone has some theories.

I am not happy about son living on Hayward fault, so I follow this closely.

On April 27, 2011, Northern and Central Alabama suffered a horrific Tornado outbreak with 67 Tornadoes and 247 deaths. Tuscaloosa and the small town of Hackleburg (not far from my hometown) were the hardest hit.

Shortly after the tragedy, I was watching the tornado videos on Youtube. There were several comments from leftists laughing that we deserved it because our State is conservative.

I fired back and asked, if that were true, then they should explain the earthquakes and wildfires in California. I’m still waiting on an answer:)

Prayers for the Freepers in California and the affected areas. Stay safe.
