“that’s just your opinion”

No. It’s more than that.

“Conservatives for God, Family, Country!” is not merely my opinion about what this forum is about. If you bother to read, you will see it is what FR is about.

And the fact that the personal attacks against me have been removed by the moderator supports that it is not simply my opinion.

Expecting members of this forum to be respectful to others and follow the guidelines that have been posted in not unreasonable. Being on this forum is a privilege, and those participating on it should treat it that way.

I come here to learn and stay informed, and hopefully sometimes contribute something worthwhile. I don’t come here to engage in banal debates. I’d rather never need to address some of the things that I find myself unable to ignore.

I value FR and want to see it remain positive force for conservatism in our nation. And the guiding principles of “Conservatives for God, Family, Country!” are at the heart of what makes FR great.

No one is trying to create a Christian theocracy or Christian “sharia” law-enforcing Taliban. A person is free to say and do things in their own homes or homes of their friends or even at public places like bars, that are not necessarily appropriate behavior in other settings. When a person is in someone else’s home, they should respect that person’s rules or leave. And when someone is on someone else’s forum, they should do likewise.

Hey, Jim.

This guy says he speaks for you and the forum. Says he knows you really intended this forum to be about some slogan he keeps using.

Does he have special dispensation from you?

“This guy says he speaks for you and the forum.”

That is false.

“Says he knows you really intended this forum to be about some slogan he keeps using.”

Hard to believe you’ve been on this forum for so many years have never read it here:

https://www.freerepublic.com/home.htm

See the header:

“Welcome to Free Republic! Conservatives for God, Family, Country! Est. 1996”

“Does he have special dispensation from you?”

Never claimed such. I won’t claim to speak for Jim, but I would be surprised to find that dropping f-bombs on people for quoting this tagline is something he favors. But I’ll let him speak for himself.

Thank you Jim for all you do.

So he DOES speak for you! Good info.

I’ll be more careful around him in the future so I don’t upset the personal echo chamber you set up for him.

This is not constructive criticism or a rational debate.

I will only state that I find it quite ironic how my earlier comments, to which such great offense seems to have been taken, are quite similar to those being discussed on other threads:

Israel Folau had his $4 million contract with the Australian rugby team terminated in early April after he posted a meme on Instagram that reads: “Warning drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists, idolaters, Hell awaits you. Repent! Only Jesus saves.”

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3759949/posts

Unfortunately, there are some on this forum who advocate prostitution, pornography, and adultery, and seem very offended when anyone points out these are inconsistent with conservatism or the teachings of Christ. They are also inconsistent with “God, Family, Country.”

It is also unfortunate that the post to which I am responding ends with a clearly personal attack, which I will be reporting.

It appears that not only did the person posting not know the FR motto, has also insulted the owner of the forum by claiming he is making FR my “personal echo chamber,” but he further appears to have completely overlooked (or ignored) these clearly posted guidelines for which earlier posts have already been deleted:

“Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts.”

“Im sure he meant to address it all to Laz.”

No, I addressed it to the person posting it. And that was not Laz. It wasn’t even the person to which your current post was addressed. That person apparently took deep offense to what I said to someone else entirely.

In know all about the Laz meme here. I think it is something that might have been funny somewhere back in the early history of it, but has gotten carried away imo.

Not everything is about sex. Not every thread needs to be made into a thread about sex. That’s hijacking.

As I pointed out, some basics of civil conduct are posted on the home page:

https://www.freerepublic.com/home.htm

“Please enjoy our forum, but also please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience.”

Notice the “family audience” here?

I really am amazed that there are grown men who don’t seem to think about how vulgar, sexist, hyper-sexualized content might not be appropriate for some of the threads here.

Why is that?

Wouldn’t you or any other conservative man on this forum be deeply offended if his wife, mom, daughter, or sister were exposed to such lewdness?

How about if some of us would like to introduce the next generation of conservatives to FR? This might be a great place for teenagers to learn about conservatism. But it can’t be if its members ignore the clearly posted guidelines that pertain to this.

“You should really stop white knighting, Its unhealthy.”

Thank you for your concern for my health, however I am unconvinced that my responses are harmful to my health. If something makes me irritated, and I bottle it up I either feel depressed or eventually get angry. So, I’d prefer to just get it out of my system when something is bothering me.

I also question your use of “white knighting”. Admittedly, this phrase is not something in my vocabulary, so I had to look it up. Here is what I found:

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=white%20knighting

“In forum parlance, it means rushing to the aid of another poster for whatever reason. An accusation typically reserved for when a poster is being hammered by another poster(s) and the accused leaps in to defend them, usually without thinking things through as to why the person is being attacked.”

If this is correct, it is quite ironic because I did not rush in to defend another poster on this forum. However, two people in this particular conversation did. You are one. And the person whom you rushed to defend is another, since the original post he responded to me about was not addressed to him.

It is also interesting that certain people here have a problem with me for feeling compelled to interject with a criticism. So, these same people feel compelled to interject with a criticism about my criticism. Doesn’t that seem a bit hypocritical?

What made you feel compelled to advise, admonish, correct, or instruct me about my posting habits? Was it a sincere concern for my health, or was it just a way to vent about something you don’t like? And if the latter, why is your compulsion to criticize ok, but mine is not?

I like FR because it is a community of conservatives who I find I have a lot in common with. I don’t expect to agree with everyone on everything, or for everyone to agree with me on everything.

But I also don’t come to FR to get into heated exchanges. I come to learn and stay informed, and hopefully contribute something worthwhile. When I do get into these exchanges, it wearies me, and I usually take a day or two off of FR.

It’s like taking a walk in the park. I don’t go to the park to step in dog crap. I don’t go there to clean up someone else’s dog’s crap. If I saw someone letting their dog crap on the sidewalk I might be inclined to tell them they need to clean it up, as there are city ordinances against it.

When I report abuse on a post for vulgarity, it is a lot like that. Some people just think it is perfectly ok to take a dump on the forum with their vulgarity. It’s not ok. A lot of folks are too polite to call people out on it. And some folks apparently get irritated when asked to follow the simple and quite reasonable rules of the forum. And I don’t think I’m a killjoy for asking people to follow them. Personally, I’d much prefer to take my stroll through the park without ever needing to deal with dog feces in the path. And I’d prefer to participate on FR without dealing with issues like this.

Just to be clear, I clicked on the link to this particular thread because I did not watch any Democrat debates, and I expected to get some well-informed opinions from those here who decided to watch. What I did not come here to learn is which candidate certain members of this forum think are the most sexually desirable in their sexual fantasies. Common sense is to not post such crap on a public forum, especially a forum intended to be family-friendly. This is particularly true when there is nothing about sexuality in the news item being discussed. Diverting it off topic is hijacking the thread.

Here’s a good rule of thumb: if a comment could get a person fired from his or her job for sexual harassment, it is probably not a good idea to post it on a public forum. This is not my forum, and I am not trying to create any new rules for it. I am simply giving my opinion. You’re entitled to yours, and so am I.

AH, so no free speech for others, but all for you. Got it.

Ummmmm, I take that back.

Don’t want random comments? Don’t talk, it’s that easy. If you want everyone to say what you want and think like you do, start your own board. I for one miss the times when there were FAR more thought provoking discussions. However jumping on your soapbox, while perched on your white horse and telling others they are going to hell, well, you may want to look into Westboro church, seems more your speed.

“AH, so no free speech for others, but all for you. Got it.”

No, you don’t get it. Besides being a straw man argument, it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of first amendment rights.

Do you think that liberals should be able to come on FR and promote abortion or homosexual marriage?

“If you want everyone to say what you want and think like you do, start your own board.”

You are on a conservative forum. That does not mean that everyone will agree, but it does mean that the owner of the forum has the right to exclude non-conservative advocacy.

“However jumping on your soapbox, while perched on your white horse and telling others they are going to hell, well, you may want to look into Westboro church, seems more your speed.”

Don’t misinterpret what I said. I never told anyone they are going to Hell. I warned people what leads to Hell.

Maybe you would be more at home teaming up with the liberals who kicked Israel Folau off of the Australian rugby team for posting this Instagram: “Warning drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists, idolaters, Hell awaits you. Repent! Only Jesus saves.”

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3759949/posts

The consensus around here and among conservatives is that he was exercising his free speech. However, apparently you think such posts do not even belong on FR.

Here is what the Bible says about your comments:

John 7:7
The world... hates Me [i.e. Jesus] because I testify of it that its works are evil.

Luke 6:22
Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.

Members of this forum should not be advocating abortion, homosexuality, adultery, pornography, prostitution, atheism, or other ideologies that are contradictory the motto and mission statement, as determined by the judgment of the forum’s owner. If he deems these acceptable or decides to change the mission statement, that is his prerogative alone. However, I am not trying to make any rules, just pointing out these things are inconsistent with the purpose of this site.

There are members of this forum who hold such views, but this is not the place to advocate them, as I understand it. If you disagree, perhaps it is you who are in the wrong place.

Your post reminds me of a close in-law of mine’s “Christian” relatives. When he posted some things on Facebook against homosexual marriage, they railed against him about how unloving and “unChristian” he was being. These same people took there small children to attend a homosexual couple’s “wedding”. And they claim to be Christian. It is ironic that they could not show him the same love, compassion, and tolerance that they reserved for the homosexuals.

It says volumes about the person making the comments to which I am replying, that when warning people of Hell he gets his feathers all ruffled, but he does not at all mind when someone advocates having sex with a married woman. And he rails against me for opposing this but thinks posting such trash on a conservative, family- and faith-friendly forum is perfectly fine. That might be dangerous to one’s soul.

Matthew 23:13
But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Some people fear the threat of Hell. Some ignore it. And some not only reject it, they oppose and try to shout down those who warn others. Most people are not content to go alone to their eternal destination; they usually take others with them. For some, that is Heaven. For some, that is Hell.

When the two thieves on the crosses who were crucified on either side of Christ saw the injustice of what the Roman and Jewish leaders had done to Christ and how He responded to this, they had two starkly different reactions.

Luke 23:39-43
Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

These are the same to options afforded to every one of us. We can chose to remain in our sins, unrepentant, and will one day wake up in Hell. Or, we can yield to God’s mercy and grace and receive forgiveness. But notice that the one who received grace was the one who accepted responsibility for his sins and crimes. The other was apparently stubbornly unrepentant until the very end.

I am making no claims of being any more moral than either of those thieves. And whether you find my way of talking about these things offensive or not, do you really want to stake your eternity on whether you like my personality?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes, this forum has had nothing to sharpen its claws on for decades.
You are on a conservative forum. That does not mean that everyone will agree, but it does mean that the owner of the forum has the right to exclude non-conservative advocacy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Again, not your forum and the owner has made it quite clear, YOU don’t speak for him, soooooooooo I’D take his name out of your mouth.

The consensus around here and among conservatives is that he was exercising his free speech. However, apparently you think such posts do not even belong on FR.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You also don’t speak for me, so put away your crystal balls and guessing where I may or may not be comfortable.
Here is what the Bible says about your comments:
John 7:7
The world... hates Me [i.e. Jesus] because I testify of it that its works are evil.
Luke 6:22
Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Odd, it neither addressed me, nor was I addressing Christ. Or are you comparing yourself TO Christ and trying to take that mantle from Him?

Members of this forum should not be advocating abortion, homosexuality, adultery, pornography, prostitution, atheism, or other ideologies that are contradictory the motto and mission statement, as determined by the judgment of the forum’s owner. If he deems these acceptable or decides to change the mission statement, that is his prerogative alone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OR trains, or Cruz supporters, or grouchy old men, or people with an odd point of view on how things MIGHT work. First they came for the Jews, but I wasn’t one……

If you disagree, perhaps it is you who are in the wrong place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ahhhh, once again, its the “If you don’t agree with ME, then you don’t belong here.
It says volumes about the person making the comments to which I am replying, that when warning people of Hell he gets his feathers all ruffled…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not at all, other than the fact is that your argument has been tried MANY times here and eventually been shown little support. Keep tilting at those windmills.

These are the same to options afforded to every one of us. We can chose to remain in our sins, unrepentant…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Born again is born again
And whether you find my way of talking about these things offensive or not, do you really want to stake your eternity on whether you like my personality?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I haven’t even begun to consider your personality. If you want me to, I can.

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;
and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Jim,

Sorry to bother you with this, but some people on this forum keep accusing me of overstepping my bounds and claiming to speak for you which I have not. I have only pointed out the motto and policies that are clearly displayed on the home page and under the “reply” button.

If I am understanding his response, this guy, Enigo54, thinks this forum should be open to liberals to be able to argue in favor of abortion and homosexual marriage.

Without speaking for you I’m feeling pretty confident based on reading many of your posts over the years that you have no intention of opening up this forum for liberals to argue their beliefs. I am under the impression that this would not be at all in keeping with the purpose of this site.

Thanks again for all you do.
