The U.S. military’s Central Command has released a video and some still photographs on June 14 that it says shows Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) removing an unexploded limpet mine from one of the oil tankers that was targeted near the strategic Strait of Hormuz on June 13, suggesting that Iran sought to remove evidence of its involvement from the scene.

U.S. Central Command spokesman Bill Urban released the black-and-white footage and two still color photographs. The military says the video shows an IRGC Gashti Class patrol boat approaching the Kokuka Courageous “and was observed and recorded removing (an) unexploded limpet mine from the M/T Kokuka Courageous.”

These vessels were Japanese and Norwegian. Let them attack Iran. Unless our vessels or assets are attacked, we should stay out.

In the past Iran has killed hundreds of Americans and nothing was done. Maybe it is time to get sick of this shit and take them out.

I wish people could discuss things without going off the deep end.

People are right to be skeptical. But it has to be tempered with reason and information.

And questions about what should be done by America if a non-American ship is attacked and damaged are not only valid but wise to discuss.

However, I think a country that is whipping up its people to chant “Death to America”, has a history of instigating international incidents, has actively and illegally violated international diplomatic laws by taking down an embassy, has attacked Americans, and actively funds and assists terrorists should be fairly scrutinized for culpability in things like this and SHOULD NOT be excluded out of hand from analysis, even MORE SO when the exclusion is done in favor of a conspiracy involving our own country’s government.

Just my two cents.

“Let them (the Japanese and Norwegians) attack Iran.”

All the Japanese and Norwegians would have to do to land a serious blow against Iran is to stop buying oil from them and instead buy it from non-Arabian sources.

According to today’s news, shipping insurance costs have soared as a result of yesterday’s attacks. That alone should convince Japan and Norway to start seeking other sources of oil that don’t require its tankers to play Russian Roulette in the Persian Gulf.

I didn’t say you did say that, not sure where you got that.

I was embarrassed as a conservative reading some of the threads on this subject where various posters emphatically and unequivocally state this is our own people/government orchestrating it.

It think it is wise to consider the possibility.

I think it is foolhardy to assume without evidence that is the case.

Two things I find odd.

1. That patrol boat was packed. Just how many people are needed to remove a mine?

2. The video starts with the patrol boat alongside the ship. Why is there no video of the patrol boat approaching the ship?

One possible conclusion: That patrol boat was there to rescue the ship’s crew.

Heh, I love that graphic!

I admit, I have been there myself on occasion...embarrassingly.

As Iran is an allie of Russia expect Putin puffers to twist this story around. They will say anything.

All good points. The region that is now Iran has had a long history, and I would never look at these things in a vacuum.

The U.S. had been meddling in their politics long before the 1979 Iran revolution, and I've long said that we'd be better off simply leaving other countries alone. Trade with us on our terms, or don't trade with us at all. But there's no reason to engage in military conflicts in these Third World dumps just because prominent Saudi royal family members happen to be global real estate investment partners of the Bush family going back 40+ years.

Even more practical ... the soaring insurance costs should convince shipping lines to stop making port calls there.

This is a legitimate gripe. But keep in mind is that while you consider these possibilities, there is going to have to be a "default" position on how you'd like to see the Trump administration handle these things -- i.e., "What should be done while I consider the possibilities?"

And after what I've seen from: (1) the U.S. dealings in the Middle East over the last 30+ years, and (2) the dealings of the U.S. intelligence apparatus in our domestic affairs over the last few years ... I assume a default position that everything I see from "official sources" is 100% bullsh!t.

Wait a minute ...

Hasn't the U.S. Navy been involved in more collisions with civilian vessels on the open seas than any other fleet in the world over the last couple of years? LOL.

I can understand that, I think a better approach is a more neutral one.

I have as much dislike for the approach of people who digest the government line without question.

That has the potential of being just as, or more hazardous as rejecting it out of hand, IMO.
