Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) has opted to quit the House Freedom Caucus in the wake of his comments in support of moving forward with impeachment proceedings.
The Freedom Caucus voted to condemn the Michigan Republican's remarks last month, but the group opted not to force him out despite a divide among members.
Amash was the first and only Republican House member to publicly say he thought President Trump had committed impeachable offenses after the release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 election.
He has since doubled down multiple times on his statement that the president committed impeachable offenses and has clashed with Trump as well as with other members of his own party.
Pressure to kick the congressman out of the caucus began to mount after Amash failed to alert the group he was making his position, which conflicts with the majority of the groups pro-Trump views, public.
Members of the Freedom Caucus have been some of the presidents strongest defenders in Congress as momentum to impeach Trump has gained momentum within the Democratic caucus.
The president has maintained that Mueller's investigation found "no collusion" and "no obstruction." Mueller did not establish the that Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government. He neither implicated nor exonerated the president on allegations of obstruction.
His district is in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Non Muzzie, and fairly conservative. I doubt he can win there as a Democrat.
I’d guess many of them are DU trolls trying to instigate fissures in the Trump base.
How did he ever get in???
Weve got to infiltrate all levels of the GOP, starting with locals in every state.
Agree on rats being unified top -bottom, with loss of $upport being the whacker, and on Soros dirty influences. They are NOT a large tent. Its like pubic school teachers many are not leftists, but they date not admit it.
He was a TEA party Republican and came in on that wave, an advocate of conservative values. Hes evolved while in office.
Adouche, I’ll bet, was asked, no demanded, to leave!
As, unfortunately, many do!
Hes evolved while in office.
Devolved.
I am pretty certain that no one can BE that stupid, in the way he has conducted himself and what he says.
That leaves only ONE explanation. Money certainly changed hands!!
Yes, I meant to put quotation marks around the word evolved.
One more nail in the coffin.
Amash is a loon and he is full of crap claiming Trump committed impeachable offenses.
That being said, in the hypothetical event that Trump WAS removed from office (which ain't gonna happen, since the Senate wouldn't vote to convict but lets go with the far fetched scenario they would), the person who would become President is Mike Pence, NOT "a Democrat"
Your argument reminds me of RATs making the ridiculous argument that impeaching Bill Clinton would somehow result in "Newt Gingrich" becoming President. I must have missed where in the Constitution it said to skip over Al Gore.
You're arguing that in the case of a successful in-your-face coup against a duly elected President, that the conspirators would stop with Trump?
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
Cretin.
Never heard of him before his traitorous side came out. ESAD.
And like several of you have said before: One (1) candidate needs to emerge and crush him.
And as far as him running as an X Party POTUS candidate goes: He needs to be given a Jack Woltz lesson.
You're arguing that they'd somehow magically be able to then impeach and remove Mike Pence the INSTANT after they removed Trump, thus allowing "Democrat judges" to be confirmed?
Do you understand anything about how government works?
You probably don't even realize that if they impeached Trump they'd need to OVERWHELMINGLY convince a REPUBLICAN controlled Senate to remove him with 2/3rds of the Senate voting to convict, which ain't happening.
Call me when you complete a basic government civics class.
I can predict a list of responses we will no doubt hear from Amash apologists if he is defeated for re-nomination by a decent mainstream conservative or steps down and announces his retirement from Congress:
“All this means is the deep state got their man to replace him in Washington. I hope you’re all satisfied”
“Sadly some FReepers blindly love Trump so much they were willing to throw a great conservative overboard just for disagreeing with them on ONE issue. Pathetic!”
“Apparently just voting for the Constitution makes you ‘anti-semetic’ these days. Really??”
“Liberty died today”
“Yet another example why we MUST repeal the 17th NOW. Our Republic is DEAD!!!!”
“No doubt the GOPE paid off enough Democrat shrills to cross over and vote against Amash.”
“Gloat all you want. You Amash bashers must really hate the founding fathers, because Amash just votes the same way they would”
“This just shows you how powerful the Israeli lobby is these days. The 800 pound Gorilla in the room nobody wants to talk about is they hate Amash because he is a Christian and opposes fighting endless wars for Israel. Period”.
“Amash helped FOUND the Freedom Caucus and THIS is how they repay him?!!? I guess no good deed goes unpunished”.
“Apparently there is no room in the GOPE ‘big tent’ for constitutional conservatives anymore. Perhaps the Libertarian Party will accept a patriot like Justin”.
The point of the operation is to Nixonize the Republicans in the next election cycle and succeeding cycles, thus insuring a Democrat president free to appoint all the Ginsburg clones "ze" pleases.
Guess they didn't explain that to you in "basic government civics class"...
The only reason any Republican Senators would want to remove Trump is because they prefer Pence/think he has a better chance in 2020. There is obviously a less than zero% chance of Pence, who has never so much as had a parking ticket or maybe even used the F word in his life, of being removed also (allowing Pelosi to unconstitutionally become Acting President) .
That said, removing Trump would have such a deleterious effect on the GOP base that democrats would surely win next year, there is only a year and half left on this term, it’s all about the election at this point.
