The FBI tried to destroy the reputation of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr as controversial unearthed files reveal. Shocking details of the FBIs smear campaign against MLK Jr have been found on secret tapes, it is claimed. Its is alleged the agency accused the celebrated civil-rights campaigner of having up to 40 affairs.
~[snip} J Edgar Hoover, who believed he had Communist Party ties. Details of the covert tapes have been revealed by biographer David Garrow, ...
MLks secret heartache and the white woman he could never marry.... Hoover feared [King's] popular movement could destabilise the country.
Agents honed in on Kings philandering and claims he fathered a child claims which Garrow argues could lead to painful historical reckoning. Although the tapes, recorded by bugs in two lamps in hotel rooms booked by King in January, 1964, are ... at the US National Archives, the author unearthed the FBI summaries of the various incidents.
He claims they show King had extramarital affairs with up to 45 women and, shockingly, even looked on and laughed as pastor friend Logan Kearse raped a parishioner. The recording from the Willard Hotel, near the White House, shows how King was accompanied by Kearse, (died 1991), along with female parishioners of his church. In his hotel room, the files claim, they then discussed which women among the parishioners would be suitable for natural and unnatural sex acts.
... when one of the women protested that she did not approve, the Baptist minister immediately and forcefully raped her as King watched. He is alleged to have looked on, laughed and offered advice during the attack. FBI agents were in the room next door, but did not intervene.

Services for the Rev. I. Logan Kearse, founder of the Cornerstone Church of Christ and a leader of the civil rights movement in Baltimore in the 1960s, will be held at noon Tuesday at the church, 4239 Park Heights Ave.
Dr. Kearse, who was 69 and lived on Chancery Road, died Monday at Union Memorial Hospital after a series of strokes.
Since 1980, he had also been national president of the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, with which his congregation had been affiliated since 1969.
He started the church in 1958 as a Baptist church, and for many years it was located at Bolton and Wilson streets. The affiliation was changed after the first church was destroyed in a fire in 1969, and the congregation moved to Park Heights Avenue. In the early 1960s, Dr. Kearse became one of the leaders of the college students who fanned out often from his Bolton Hill church and from others to demonstrate for civil rights.
He was arrested seven times in Maryland and once in Albany, Ga., with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., whom he also accompanied to the Nobel Peace Prize presentation in Oslo, Norway, in 1964.
At his first arrest, he was wearing an Italian silk suit, which he gave away after sitting in a cell with his feet up to avoid the urine and the cockroaches on the floor.
In a 1982 interview he said of the gains of the civil rights movement, "In my judgment, in the '60s we made three steps forward and since then we've made two steps backward. So the net gain is one step. And unless we're very careful we might lose that one step."
Born in South Boston, Va., the son of a Methodist minister, he preached his first sermon at the age of 7 at a church in Lincolnton, N.C. His father was the pastor.
At the age of 14, he was an assistant at a church in Winston-Salem, N.C. He later served as pastor of another church there and of a church in Stamford, Conn., before coming to Baltimore in the early 1950s and serving for a time as pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
A graduate of Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and a member of its board, he earned a doctorate at Boston University. He also held 36 honorary doctorates.
In 1962, he ran for the Democratic nomination for Maryland's 4th Congressional District seat.
His survivors include his wife, the former Dr. Wanda Maynor; a son, I. Logan Kearse II of Atlanta; a daughter, Deborah Ross of Baltimore; two brothers, the Rev. James Kearse of Baltimore and Samuel Kearse of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Dr. Emma Kearse of Union Mills, N.C., and Rose Kearse of Baltimore; and six grandchildren.
Garrow is himself super-slimy. When the Civil Rights stuff ceased to pay well, he reinvented himself as a great champion of abortion. Then he got caught assaulting a female staffer at Emory University and had to move on. Nobody I would trust for a minute.
::Yep, MLK wasnt perfect and the affairs element is true- but this seems like Deep State trickery::

I agree.
MLK had several speech writers. I know many people will not believe it, But that is a matter of record. Two of them were card-carrying communists.
Yes - Hoover was corrupt, and now there is a long cancerous thread that has metastasized in the FBI body from that time to this.
Hoover illegally tapped politicians, and when FDR told him to stop, Hoover showed him transcripts of his political enemies. Then FDR told him to keep spying, without warrants. Corruption breeds corruption! (”Enemies, A History of the FBI” Tim Weiner)
The FBI tried to take down a President with lies in 2016 - what would Hoover have done against a Black minister in the 1960’s?
What was once believed to be an immaculate institution has now proven itself to be an enemy of American democracy. The FBI needs to account for what happened in this Russian hoax, and this enormous threat to remove a legally elected President.
“Last year, former FBI director James Comey unapologetically and openly criticised Hoover for spying on Dr King.”
Wait. I thought Comey said the FBI doesn’t spy, only investigates?
You can only do so much from a 1960s surveillance recording. No one is going to spend the money to analyze it anyway. This isn’t the JFK assassination where they struggled to just identify how many shots were fired from some crappy audio file.
Splice? No splice. As I said one could mix a recording of MLK laughing with a recordings of the so-called rape and it could be done such that no one could definitely prove it was doctored. Different experts could state opposite conclusions and they would just be opinions. An MLK audio tape that is damaging to MLK’s reputation is not going to be generally believed with experts disagreeing on conclusions. Analyzed by whom? The FBI? :-)
What everyone should take away from this is that the FBI has spent more time on spying on IS citizens than in doing anything else. Its historu is long and ugly. Spying on anyone and everyone was about all the FBI has ever done
Things they havent done. Stopped 9/11. Truly investigated TWA 800. Apologized for ruining Arthur Anderson acct firm. Apologized to Richard Kewel or Steven Hatfield
The stakes on this are high, some reporter saying that he heard secret tapes that won’t be released for 8 years isn’t enough for me to go around telling people MLK participated in rapes.
Never mind the truth about MLK, the American people accepted a lie years ago when President Reagan signed the King holiday bill into law in 1983.
That is no coincidence that he said that. Unless he said it right after the 11/2017 doc release from that jfk file.
And why were Kings files comingled or dumped with Kennedy’s?
Were files from both Agencies?
It is all very odd, indeed.
When exactly did Comey make that statement?
Sep 09, 2011 · Jackie Kennedy said Martin Luther King was terrible, tapes reveal. "I just can't see a picture of Martin Luther King without thinking, you know, that man's terrible," the former first lady revealed in a series of interviews with historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. in the months following the 1963 assassination of husband John F. Kennedy.
True. Hoover would have done it , but this story can now make it easy for the Left to abandon King and his awkward content of your character belief. They can now, in their fevered brains, consider him part of the white patriarchy.
No offense, but the Kennedies are not exactly the exemplars are godly, Christian conduct either...
ANd neither were many great people in History. Including Martin Luther King Jr’s namesake: Martin Luther of Germany. He was viciously anti-Semitic at times.

As messed up as Hoover and LBJ were, they were spot on about
The Hypocrite Preacher Man.
Good points. Sheesh.
Because there are folks around here that KNOW it is true.
They were a little more reliable in times past, but you knew that already right?
