The FBI tried to destroy the reputation of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr as controversial unearthed files reveal. Shocking details of the FBI’s smear campaign against MLK Jr have been found on secret tapes, it is claimed. Its is alleged the agency accused the celebrated civil-rights campaigner of having up to 40 affairs.

Agents honed in on King’s philandering and claims he fathered a child – claims which Garrow argues could lead to “painful historical reckoning”. Although the tapes, recorded by bugs in two lamps in hotel rooms booked by King in January, 1964, are ... at the US National Archives, the author unearthed the FBI summaries of the various incidents.
He claims they show King had extramarital affairs with up to 45 women and, shockingly, even “looked on and laughed” as pastor friend Logan Kearse raped a parishioner. The recording from the Willard Hotel, near the White House, shows how King was accompanied by Kearse, (died 1991), along with female parishioners of his church. In his hotel room, the files claim, they then “discussed which women among the parishioners would be suitable for natural and unnatural sex acts”.
... “when one of the women protested that she did not approve, the Baptist minister immediately and forcefully raped her” as King watched. He is alleged to have “looked on, laughed and offered advice” during the attack. FBI agents were in the room next door, but did not intervene.

It’s ugly and it’s real. The author reviewing the tape summaries, Garrow, was quite a fan and historian of King. Why would he make this up?

All that is curious is the timing of it all.
The rapes and orgies are documented from the release of JFK secret files released by Trump in 2017.
All that is new is the deeper depravity and his failure to stop a rape.

How would they know all that from an audio tape? How do we know it’s not a combination of two tapes — one of a sex act/rape and one of MLK laughing? Sure — it might be real as stated but how does one prove it all happened as stated based on an old audio tape which is probably of poor quality.

Detailed analysis of the tape can determine if it was made in the same room with the same mic.
The question is then “can we trust the analyst?”

Because there are folks around here that HOPE it is true. Some gain pleasure from watching others be destroyed. Some even hope it’s a true civil right leader that is taken down. You can read into why that is if you wish.
Was he perfect? Nope...was his character impeccable? Nope...and neither is our President’s. If character was the virtue selected to elect people no one on earth would be elected.

What is the FBI protocol, you have to wonder?

“Now, there are at least three reasons why I feel obligated as a Christian minister to talk to you about communism. The first reason grows out of the fact that communism is having widespread influence in the contemporary world. Like a mighty tidal wave, it has moved through China, Russia, eastern Europe, and now has rolled within ninety miles of the borders of our nation.2 More than a billion of the peoples of the world believe in communism. And many of these people have accepted it as a new religion, and they are willing to surrender their total being to this system. A force so potent cannot be ignored.
A second reason that I feel compelled to talk about communism this morning is that it is the only serious rival of Christianity.3 The other historic and great religions of the world such as Judaism, Mohammedanism, Buddhism, and Hinduism may stand as alternatives to Christianity. But for the most formidable competitor that Christianity faces in the world today, we must look to communism. No one conversant with the hard facts of modern life can deny the truth that communism is Christianity’s most serious rival.
The third reason that I feel compelled to talk about communism this morning is that it is unfair and certainly unscientific to condemn a system of thought without knowing what that system of thought says and without knowing why it is wrong and why it is evil. So, for these reasons, I choose to talk about this troubling issue.
Now, let us begin by answering the question which our sermon topic raises: Can a Christian be a communist? I answer that question with an emphatic “no.” These two philosophies are diametrically opposed. The basic philosophy of Christianity is unalterably opposed to the basic philosophy of communism, and all of the dialectics of the logician cannot make them lie down together. They are contrary philosophies.
How, then, is communism irreconcilable with Christianity? In the first place, it leaves out God and Jesus Christ. Communism is avowedly secularistic and materialist...

The human capacity for depravity includes doing awful deeds, as well as making up stories of awful deeds to blackmail others. Either, and even both, could be the case here. For Garrow to promulgate “FBI interpretations” when he knows the source tapes are sealed until 2027 is swinish. Is he that desperate for publicity?
I don’t care how many women had consensual sex with MLK. The rape incident, if true, is a different story.

From a room surveillance tape in the 1960s? Not really. There could have been a combination of tape recordings of the same room and same mic taken at different times ... or it could be real. Who knows? Definitely not something Trump needs to have his fingerprints on.

They made an attempt to lessen the crimes of the (then) present by dirtying up the past.

I have long known all about MLK’s various foibles but that’s not what this is REALLY about.
