MSNBC’s Matthews Warns of 1972 Nixon-McGovern Repeat in 2020 with Far-Left Dem Candidates
Breitbart ^ | 04/02/2019 | Jeff Poor

Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” host Chris Matthews offered his take on the Democratic Party’s drift to the far-left, which he warned could have an impact on the 2020 presidential election.

Matthews reminded voters of the 1972 presidential election between incumbent President Richard Nixon and then-Democratic presidential nominee Sen. George McGovern (D-SD). Nixon won in a landslide, taking 49 states and 60% of the popular vote.

He suggested such a scenario could be possible in 2020 if Democrats nominated a far-left candidate to go up against President Donald Trump in 2020.

~snip~

“What’s hard is to identify a leading candidate that is resisting the move to the left,” Matthews continued. “Very hard because all seem determined to hold their own among those young, strongly progressive, often minority voters expected to make up the voting base in the early states. I have a strong memory of how this pattern of Democratic Party behavior worked out the last time the party went hard to the left. It was 1972. George McGovern was the chosen nominee. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The convention was giddy with excitement even if not that well organized. I was there watching the Massachusetts delegation actually dancing in a circle. They were so happy. The Democrats lost 49 states that year to Richard Nixon who not only carried the Electoral College, losing only Massachusetts and D.C. but 60 percent of the popular vote.”

I suspect that you might be right. The Clintons might be a maneuvering for a brokered convention at which Hills steps in as the only candidate who can “unify the party,” blah blah blah. It’s a long shot, but, who knows. The takedown of Biden could be part of their plan.

McGovern would not be leftist enough for today’s Democrat Party.

He loved his country enough to fight for it, which would pretty much disqualify him right then and there.

My guess is, this map isn't going to move much in 2020.

That has also been said about Moochelle obama.

Imagine that all the flakes in the dim party flake out and it comes down to the Hildabeast and Moochelle?

Catfight!!!

I'm sure those young, strongly progressive, often minority voters expected to make up the voting base in the early states could care less about 1972 and probably don't know who Richard Nixon is, never mind who Chris Matthews is and his opinion.

I do believe Sanders would win 10 states. That's how crazy the nation is these days. But actually I'm rooting for Sanders to be the opposition because Trump can finish him off in short order as the whacky Commie he is.

Under a best-case "landslide" scenario I can see Trump potentially winning several more states in 2020 than he won in 2016, but there aren't many of them. In rough order of probability, I'd list the six below. I don't see how that six

1. New Hampshire
2. Minnesota
3. Nevada
4. Virginia
5. Colorado
6. Maine

What states could possibly turn this 6 into 10? New Mexico? Maybe. Oregon or Delaware? Not at all likely.

You will never, EVER see lopsided victories like those in 1972 and 1984 ever again, unless it is for a Democrat candidate and more than the usual amount of voter fraud is involved.

I don’t think he would carry Nevada, Colorado, or NM.

All three of them (plus Virginia) went for Bush in 2004, so I would at least consider them a remote possibility. I think Clinton won all of them in 2016 without reaching 50% of the vote, too.

I believe Trump will win the popular vote as well as the EC.

I don’t think anyone of either party will ever win a 49 state landslide as we saw in 1972 and 1984.

I think the 2016 election was a miracle from heaven.

Hillary and all her witch friends casts many spells and ate many babies in order to win.

However, this country belongs to God, and He wanted a victory so there was a victory.

That doesn't mean that in 2020 we slack at all. But, whatever the demoncraps do the result will be His.

“Matthews is right, for once.
Just wish he wasn’t telling them....”

Doesn’t matter, they won’t listen.

It’s like stock market bubbles. They keep re-occurring because “it’s different this time”.

It won’t be that bad, because Americans have moved left and there is a serious lack of critical thinking in the past 40 years. Hatred for Trump combined with a complicit media will allow the left to win many states.

Did Chrissy spit that out?

If you’ll recall, in 1976 the Democrats switched from hard Left back to the center by nominating James Earl Carter - a very public Southern Baptist Christian who promised he would never lie. He also admitted to lusting in his heart to Playboy magazine.

Carter brought about the hard left campaign of one Edward M. Kennedy in 1980 and Walter “Fritz” Mondale, Carter’s Veep, in 1984.

The new version of this, I’ve noticed is to run former military people in swing districts and downplay the fact that they are Democrats. Being a full-throated Christian in the Democrat Party today would likely cause other Democrats to accuse that person of being a member of a “hate group”.

.. and watching the Colorado EC voters have to vote for him even though the state likely won’t vote for him will be fun to watch... as the same leftist morons that pushed for the change in Colorado, will overnight be filing federal court challenges to the law to void it after its clear Trump won both the EC and the Popular vote.

- -

CO will then amend the law to require all electors to vote for the Leftist candidate.
