A Utah elementary school teacher apologized to one of her Catholic students Wednesday -- and may still face disciplinary action -- after she forced him to wash off the Ash Wednesday cross on his forehead, the boys family said.
William McLeod, a fourth grader at Valley View Elementary School, received the ash marking -- made in the shape of a cross and applied by a priest -- for the Catholic religious day that signals the start of the Lenten season and then went to school in Bountiful, Fox 13 reported. He told Fox 13 he was the only student who had ashes.
A lot of students asked me what it is. I said, Im Catholic. Its the first day of Lent. It's Ash Wednesday, William said.
William's teacher, who was not identified, later approached him and forced him to wash off the symbol, he said.
William reportedly attempted to explain why he wanted to keep the ash cross on his forehead, but he said his teacher wouldn't listen.
She took me aside, and she said, You have to take it off, William said.
She gave me a disinfection wipe whatever they are called and she made me wipe it off.

Needs to be fired and sued. The school needs to be sued, and maybe the state.
...or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...
Same deal as the kid at Bezerkley.
or more likely in Utah. Teacher is a Mormon.
Don’t you think that, even if the teacher was stupid enough to have never heard of Catholicism, that she might have taken 60s to Google what the student said before deciding he was in the wrong?
I’m not Muslim or Jewish, and I know what those holidays are. I also am not a schoolteacher who should be accommodating of different students’ religions, and should know this stuff already.
As punishment, why not have the “teacher” write on her blackboard “I will not discriminate against Christians” 666 times?
SERIOUSLY, did you forget the /s? I think you did. I am not Muslim or Jewish but because I live in the United States I DO know those religious holidays. Apparently, so do you.
.
All Mormons know that any church other than their own is the whore of Babylon.
She did what she was taught to do.

Good! Paganism is not pleasing to Yehova!
Laura Ingram had a cross on her forehead. So did Dana Perino and Greg Gutfifeld. All are Catholic.
Oh I am sure.
I was just joking.
Listen, we got a Pope who doesn’t support some of the most basic Christian dogma, so what do we do?
Go to the Bible because we follow Christ before anything.
I’m a Christian first and foremost.
This is CRAZY!
I was thinking of you and was going to send you a private mail only a few hours ago.
Then I figured “leave her alone” lol.
There was a raging discussion and I was thinking how you are always even keeled and your posts show a confidence and wisdom that comes from life experience.
In other words, the opposite of my mom who’s a nervous wreck lol
That’s great. I had no idea.
I was just joking though.
I hope most realized that.
I’m sure Catholics do just fine in Utah.
You only get the “hole in the head” if you are white and over 60, with any health problem greater than a hangnail.
School District Statement
“The Davis School District has released this statement regarding the student who was asked to remove the ash cross from his forehead:
We are sorry about what happened and apologize to the student and the family for the teachers actions. The actions were unacceptable. No student should ever be asked or required to remove an ash cross from his or her forehead.
We take the matter very seriously and are investigating the situation. The teacher is currently on administrative leave.
In a related note, one of the first phone calls placed after reaching out to the students family was to the districts Director of Educational Equity.
After expressing his concern, he quickly asked if he could reach out to the family as an ordained Catholic deacon about whether he could serve them and apply an ash cross to the students forehead.
That permission was granted. The family was contacted, was grateful for his offer and allowed him to do so.
The district knows and recognizes Ash Wednesday as one of the holiest days of the year in the Catholic faith and that it marks the beginning of Lent.
Davis School District takes the matter very seriously and is continuing the investigation.
I don’t think that even a very devout Mormon would do such a thing......................
We have a friend who put up an Advent display in his yard. In the second week of the season, one of his LDS neighbors came over and very nicely told his that some of the lights must have burnt out because not all the candles were lit.
Ash Wednesday and the receiving of ashes is not limited to Catholics.
