McConnell Reportedly Warns Trump Off Emergency Tactic Amid Possible GOP Revolt
Huffington Post ^ | 2/2/2019 | Mary Papenfuss

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has privately cautioned President Donald Trump not to declare a national emergency to build his southern border wall, The Washington Post reported Friday. He warned Trump that such a declaration might split the GOP and that Congress could pass a resolution opposing it, two Republican sources familiar with the conversation told the newspaper. In such a situation Trump might be forced into the first veto of his presidency — against his own party, McConnell pointed out, according to the sources...Some GOP legislators have already spoken out against an emergency declaration — and against another government shutdown. GOP Florida Sen. Marco Rubio said that an emergency declaration was a “terrible idea” and that he would oppose it. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) said last month that to “give the president authority basically to do that all by himself would, I think, stretch constitutional boundaries.”

GOP Senate: Doing more to stop President Trump than they ever did to stop President Obama. Still think they tell the truth when they say they represent conservatives?

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says”

Who cares. And McConnell, maybe sometime this century you can get around to doing something constructive, like getting Trump’s judges confirmed.

The GOPe STILL doesn’t understand Trump is all they have between victory and udder destruction as a party.

I've come to believe that the GOP intentionally conceded the house to the democrats. There were a ton of GOP congressmen in safe districts who suddenly retired, opening the way to flip them. Then they basically didn't defend what was left. Why would they do such a thing? Because they want to stop Trump. And the decided that if they gave the house to the dems then it could openly oppose him in all things, kneecapping his administration. They were doing it behind the scenes but it required a lot of lying and obvious promise breaking so the deal was made: you guys take the house and do the dirty work and we'll pretend to oppose you from the Senate.

It's driving them crazy that Trump is STILL forcing them to pretend to believe they things they lied about to get elected even in the face of total opposition from Pelosi's squad. I do believe it's quite possible that they may actually decide "to hell with it, we have years until the next election. Let's tell him to go F himself."

McConnell can move the Senate to fund some wall then Trump will not need to invoke the emergency power that will “split the GOP”

Seriously, you can’t undo stupid.

It is the President's sworn duty to uphold the Constitution, even if no one in Congress approves of a necessary step.

There are two support pillars for the deliberate betrayal of American interests: Those in politics who seek cheap labor, regardless of the vicious side effects on our politics, culture & continuity; and those who actually hate our heritage & culture, and seek to flood our lands with people, who they believe will share their hatred.

Neither group would be successful without the silent complicity of the other!

Then no Trump in 2020.

Do you think he's ever had any intention on running in 2020?

We voted for President Trump precisely to NOT back down to pressure from swamp things who hate our Deplorable Agenda!

He seems to have his confidence and priorities back in place this week. I assume that he is starting the Wall, if he hasn't done so already.

Build the wall. If it takes declaring a national emergency and then vetoing a bill, I’m okay with that.
