Journos Meltdown After Being Told 'Learn To Code' In Wake Of Mass Layoffs At HuffPo, Buzzfeed

After news came out about mass layoffs at HuffPost, Buzzfeed and Gannett -- in the midst of the media's relentless smear-job against the Covington Catholic students -- right-wing Twitter had a field day.

Tons of leftist journalists announced they were laid off on Twitter and the top meme was telling them to "learn to code" -- which is the same advice the media gave middle Americans whose jobs are being taken in traditional industries.

Talia Levin, who was hired by Media Matters last year after being fired by the New Yorker for smearing an ICE agent as a Nazi because she thought a tattoo he had looked like an iron cross, got quite triggered:

Chloe Angyal, best known for penning the inflammatory "Goy Bye!" Huffington Post headline after Steve Bannon was ousted from the White House, was also laid off.

Yes, she has a *literal* PhD in Romantic Comedies.

The editor-in-chief of Jalopnik (which is now owned by the far-left Gizmodo Media Group) was also "trigged":

Smearing a bunch of children and trying to ruin their lives for smiling is "respectable journalism" -- but making fun of journalists for losing their jobs is just a step too far!

Turnabout is fair play. If you were a coal miner whose mine closed, a skilled assembler whose factory moved to China or logger whose job is lost to environmental regulations, LIBERALS TOLD YOU TO GO LEARN TO CODE.

Or you were told to go to college to learn something that you may not be able to find a job in AND take on debt doing so.

Honestly, if they have a drinking or pot smoking problem, they won't be getting very good software jobs. Writing aircraft performance code, missile guidance, digital signal processing, anything "safety of life" is going to reject those candidates immediately.

I taught an embedded systems class with 6800 and 8085 trainers for my students. I had the 6800 op codes memorized to the point that I could write the code and assemble on the white board during my lecture without looking at the op code card. A nice gig from 1980 to 1983. A 20 minute read of K&R C was sufficient to make me productive. C++ followed a couple months later...that's been a moving target since 1983. The 2017 flavor of C++ is very changed vs 1983. I work in Java daily, C/C++ often. Kotlin is the latest language on my list. I play with LISP/Clojure as amusement. Ruby daily, python frequently. JavaScript frequently too. If you're not a polyglot in the computer language world, you won't be employed long. On one project it was necessary to be fluent in Ada, C, C++, FORTRAN, PL/SQL, Java and Javascript. Facility in Windows, Solaris, Linux was a given. DoD clearance and a very special skillset.

Well honey, that's what happens when you take a four year major in ‘’journalism'' and ''communications'' with a minor in ''Afro/Haitian Dance''. You should have learned plumbing.

Decisions decisions...learn code or rehearse saying, “Would you like fries with that?”

Her PhD thesis must be priceless. I wonder if she focused on modern themes from movies such as “You’ve Got Mail” or “When Harry Met Sally,” or if she did a more retro study of fare like “Pillow Talk” and “Bringing Up Baby.”

Maybe she can get a new gig as a movie critic somewhere.

Basic coding was offered even when I was in High School

BASIC was very basic. The stuff I learned how to do in high school doesn't even scratch the surface of what programmers do.

Yes. For most of the history of the Republic, most media was openly partisan.

Only during the Progressive era did the media pretend to be objective.

We are moving back to the healthier partisan media.

More honest, maybe, but not necessarily healthy.

When the only issue was the tariff, and maybe civil service reform, partisanship wasn't such a big deal.

When people disagree about everything, more partisan journalism may not be a great thing.

For good or ill, it is happening.

I have no idea what you just said. So maybe I can be a journalist :)

Nowadays you have to be a programmer, business analyst, and project manager all-in-one.
