The GOP Agenda for the Next Two Years
American Spectator ^ | November 20, 2018 | STEVE BALDWIN

...

[T]he GOP-controlled Senate needs to vote out a series of clean bills on issues that working-class Americans care about in order to show a clear contrast with the Democrats. For example, they should send to the House a number of bills that introduce free market approaches to health care such as Medical Savings Accounts and forcing insurance companies to compete across state lines, a policy that would drive rates downward. Let the Dems vote these bills down and they will.

On the immigration issue, the Senate should send to the house a border security bill that authorizes the construction of a few hundred miles of border wall in heavily populated areas and funds more border patrol officers and immigration judges. With thousands of people heading toward the border in what now appears to be an endless number of “caravans,” border security will be a hot issue for the next few years. It would be very short-sighted not to force the House Democrats to vote on such border security issues. Ditto for bills addressing our broken asylum system, our visa process, chain migration, and anchor babies.

Even on taxation bills — which must originate in the House — House Republicans should put forth a middle-class tax cut which the Democrats loudly claimed to be in favor of while denouncing Trump’s tax cut last year. Despite being in the minority, House Republicans can still, of course, introduce bills and then let the Democrats kill them. In the past, the Republican minorities have introduced watered down bills in an effort to pick up Democrat support. Those days are gone. We’re at war and congressional Republicans need to start acting like it.

Thanks - there was a big Italian presence in Rochester, NY when I was growing up and I love the sense of family - spent 2-1/2 years in southern Italy during my time in AF and of all the places I went, it is the one I miss the most.

We TALKED about that once. All the places you stayed and what you saw.

I remember something in your replies about vineyards and gardens, if i’m not mistaken.

What a great and unique experience.

I’d prefer they not waste time on “show bills” that won’t have impact on future election because most people don’t follow politics.

Instead, “resist” and blok all Democrat foolishness, investigate Democrat corruption, and confirm judge after judge.

I remember - stationed at San Vito Air Station in San Vito dei Normanni - about 11 miles from the port city of Brindisi on the boot heel....lots of agricultural, small town areas with the “big city” close by......nothing like a mom and pop ristorante to enjoy a great meal!

My pop was born in Italy and I’ve been there a number of times, but I know no area as well as you know the ones you’ve seen.

my visits add up to maybe 2 months over a lifetime.

Yours was 2 and a half years!!

What you describe sounds beautiful.

And yes a mom and pop in Italy is definitely a treat for the senses!

Despite our rocky start way back when, it seems Poles and Itals can get together..

My FAVORITE and unfortunately deceased at 63, brother in law was Polish.

I received a head injury (it wasn’t a gift!! lol) about 10 years ago.

I stayed at my sister’s house for a while and HE told me I could stay there AS LONG as I needed. He also helped me with washing and other things i could not do for a while.

What a fantastic guy, and a throwback to my father’s day when men wore button shirts and ties for every holiday.

He was a medic embedded with the marines in Vietnam.

They played TAPS at his funeral and it was the first time i’ve seen it done. With two officers present to present the flag to my sister.

It was both beautiful and devastating at the same time.

If he is an example of what the average Polish person is like, then they are among the BEST immigrants to this country.

ANY country whose military would charge on horses against heavy armor has my respect!!

BTW, HE said I could stay as long as I wanted, my SISTER said no :)

I don’t see how any of this matters unless the vote fraud is dealt with. Motor votor and now the felon voting in FLorida.

———-

With dealing with early voting, absentee voting and provisional ballots corruption will continue and once a state turns blue will never go back because fraud becomes institutional.

Could have done a lot of things the last two years. But the House and Senate would rather huff and puff against Trump. Too late now.

Yep, at a minimum they should have cut taxes more, funded the wall, reformed healthcare and education.

The GOP agenda for the next two years: cave to the dims in the House AND the Senate, and work hard (all the globalists in the GOP) to get Trump defeated in 2020. That is the kind of scum they are. When, oh when, will we come up with a Conservative Christian Party, that will work hard to put this nation back as founded. I am sick of the GOP. That is the reason I became one of those dreaded independents about 11 years ago. Sick of the GOP, that’s why.

Yeah, and here's a knee-slapper, We’re at war and congressional Republicans need to start acting like it.

Eleven GOP lawyers on the senate judiciary committee couldn't find the courage to cross examine an obviously lying Christina Ballsey Ford. Thanks to their cowardice the rats got away with destroying the person and life of Judge Kavanaugh.

The first and last purpose of the senate is reelection of its members. "Eff 'em all.

Justice Kavanaugh is alive and well and serving on the Supreme Court.
For life.
Like Clarence Thomas, he won’t forget.

I agree about the majority of the elected
Gutless
Obsequious
Pussies.

The one thing the GOP should do is introduce a bill that will eliminate the caps on the deductibility of state and local taxes.

That one issue probably cost them more than any other in these midterm elections. Let the Democrats come back in 2020 and explain why they campaigned against this change in the tax code when they ran in 2018 ... but then refused to overturn it in 2019 and 2020.

Expect nothing but stagnation after the Dem HOR is seated. GOP got what 2 months to do anything? Those POS have not funded the wall, done immigration or even repealed Ocare! But they have funded PP and a host of other liberal things. Good time to take a 2 year break from politics:-)

1. The Democrats didn't destroy Kavanaugh. If anything, they've emboldened him.

2. The GOP played the political optics of the Kavanaugh hearing perfectly. I don't know why anyone on this website would complain about it.

Legislative ambitions are now moot. The only way to succeed in that realm is to concede to the left in the House.

The Senate needs to approve as many judges and cabinet members as President Trump can send them.

To us, a family member is a family member even w/ the blood tie - looks like your brother-in-law felt the same.

You took me back to Da's days at work - shirt/tie/coat/hat and long black fabric rain coat and low-cut rubbers to protect the wingtip shoes...how things have changed.

Once I was out of uniform, I wore a shirt and tie to work as a DOD civilian - since I retired, it's jeans and T-shirts for comfort....the shirt/tie/coat stays in plastic except for formal weddings or funerals.

My Dad taught me a lot and the biggest lesson was that one had to be able to laugh at oneself (if you couldn't do it, he'd laugh at you until you learned) because life was too precious to take yourself too seriously...grew up in a NRA home and learned to shoot at an early age and got into competition pistol shooting with dad over the years...almost always armed but the respect for life makes me pray to never have to use my weapon against another.

PS - my sister (who is with God now) also had certain issues...sometimes she'd give you the shirt off her back and other times she'd be downright venomous...there were times I didn't like her much but always loved her and spent the last 5 days of her life visiting the hospital room, and a few more days for the funeral...had to buy her kids proper clothing for the funeral but was glad to help - drove up from MS to Rochester to do it.
