(Sen) Sasse (R-NE): I encouraged Trump to pick someone other than Kavanaugh

GOP Sen. Ben Sasse (Neb.) said Wednesday night that he urged President Trump to nominate someone other than Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court earlier this year.

"Although I've said many complimentary things about Judge Brett Kavanaugh and his distinguished record … I will say that I urged the president back in June and early July to make a different choice before he announced this nomination," Sasse said during an emotional speech from the Senate floor centering on sexual assault.

Is anyone surprised that Ben Sasse, a never-Trumper and fraud who is almost as bad as Jeff Flake would come up with this last minute crap. He just had to get his shot in.

“Win or lose, it’s a win for us....”

Yes, but sadly, if they do not vote him in, the Honorable Judge Kavanaugh might have to find another occupation.

I’m proud of many of our senators who do see this whole ordeal for what it is. Mitch’s speech to the senate floor is going on right now. I thought he might tear up a couple of times, but it’s hard to tell about Mitch.

What is it with these liars?

1). I doubt even talks to Sasse

2) we’ll just bless his heart

I can only wish that someone would ask: "Senator, do you think the opposition party would have behaved any differently if the nominee was someone else? They opposed the pick long before our President named anyone."

I think he’s saving her (Amy Barrett) for when RBG leaves the court. Can’t wait for that fireworks show. The Dems will have a hard time hiding their anti-Catholicism!

yeah they will attack her for that and more, and they will do it even though the constitution specifically prohibits religious tests. the dems will sink just as low if not lower to destroy a woman just like white guy Kavanaugh.

It would not made a difference to have chose somebody else; it would have been just as ugly.

“How is this in any possible way helpful?”

He’s vying to be the next Flake douche hose.

McCain is dead and we’re getting rid of Flake and Corker, but we’re getting Romney. Still, we’re heading in the right direction.

Incumbents are not easy to defeat, but I think that after the communist riots start after Kavanaugh is hopefully confirmed on Saturday, I expect all of those blue state Donks who are currently polling competitively to get washed away in the aftermath.

Sadly that would have played better before the Catholic Church shot itself in both feet with pedophile scandal. Not a lot of folks willing to defend them now.

Sasse was a never Trumper. Maybe Trump is teaching him how to fight for the one you want instead of picking someone easier. Nothing screams establishment Republican like taking the easy way out.

Isn't this a bit misleading?

All that Sasse is saying is that he was one of many who advocated for a woman nominee to be first. He didn't know at the time what the Democrats were planning to do to Kavanaugh, so it's disingenuous to suggest that he was foretelling the troubles ahead.

President Trump made the strategic decision to save Amy Coney Barrett to fill a Ginsburg vacancy. Sasse should stop trying to make something of it, and just move onto voting for Kavanaugh.

The good news is, I believe his next nominee will go a LOT smoother. First, I expect the R’s to have a net gain in the Senate, which pretty much will seal the deal. Second, after witnessing all the tactics used against Kavanaugh, I think Mitch and Grassley and Graham will be better prepared for the next one, and will change procedures to prevent a lot of this crap.
