Corker: Senate Judiciary Committee Members Should ‘Move On’ If Ford Declines Opportunity To Testify

Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker said Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing Judge Brett Kavanaugh of high school-era sexual assault, needs to respond to Senate inquiries, and that the Judiciary Committee should “move on” if she declines.

“I would hope that if someone has been given the opportunity to voice a concern that they have that they would do so,” Corker told The Daily Caller News Foundation in the U.S. Capitol Tuesday afternoon. “So that would be quite something, if she decided she did not want to testify. I would assume the committee would then move on, as they should.”

Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who has been on the fence about Kavanaugh, said earlier Tuesday that she finds it “very puzzling” that Ford will not respond to inquiries from the Senate Judiciary Committee, saying “she’s now being given an opportunity to come before the Senate Judiciary Committee and to answer questions and I really hope that she doesn’t pass up that opportunity.” (RELATED: Collins Breaks Silence On Kavanaugh Accuser Ignoring Senate Inquiries: ‘Very Puzzling’)

Corker told Politico on Sunday he believed it “would be best for all involved, including the nominee” if they were able to tell their sides of the story in front of the committee. However, according to Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, she has so far ignored repeated inquiries from the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Moderate republicans spinning around like weather vanes.

They SO want to help the democrats but want to appear reasonable at the same time.

But that is an impossible task.

Is this thing going to blow up in the Democrats faces? Is this unraveling?

In the Corker and Flake will vote “yes” to confirm and so will Collins and Murkowski.

This is backfiring on the Rats and will not end well for them.

Tell him not to do it. It’s a trap.

She will not accept and on the day they meet on of the D’s will announce she’s decided to speak - but it will take a week or so for her to get there. Then crying, R’s are bullies, etc, etc, etc,

This is all a planed delaying tactic.

Just hammer the gavel and move on NOW.

And now they see how they’ve been played. Good. You don’t want to go under oath then tough toenails

I never thought she would testify. The pressure on her would be absolutely enormous. If she did appear, her credibility would be shredded under questioning. I seriously doubt she is willing to take that risk of self destruction.

Kavanaugh on the other hand will stand tall and his reputation will actually be enhanced.

Sure hope it’s unraveling! They may have gone to this particular well one time too many...if the MSM would honestly report everything that is going on, most of the public would see this smear campaign for what it is!

There are a few squishy Senators on the R side but Judge Kavanaugh is not going to allow his good name to be destroyed and Corker, Flake, and Collins better start backing him! If this woman refuses to testify under oath on Monday, then the vote should happen that day!!

Yes, she will won’t appear to testify.

Kavanaugh has tons of female character witnesses. Ford has none.

Its over. This isn’t Anita Hill Redux. There is no allegation of sexual harassment, no pubic hair on a Coke can and no semen-stained dress.

There is no objective, independent and verifiable evidence of a crime.

Only the seriousness of the charge - but it’s not credible.

I think they thought when they got the first lie out there others would come forward. That blew up in their faces

My guess is polling isn’t encouraging for them

Call her in. Get her seated.

Then everyone walk out.

Its over. This isn’t Anita Hill Redux. There is no allegation of sexual harassment, no pubic hair on a Coke can and no semen-stained dress.

That is grossly unfair to Justice Clarence Thomas. There was no "pubic hair on a Coke can" in his case - just the completely unsupported and highly improbable claims of Anita Hill.

“Is this thing going to blow up in the Democrats faces? Is this unraveling?”

Honestly, I don’t know. The democrats are playing the “she won’t testify until the FBI investigates” card. But the FBI doesn’t investigate local misdemeanors whose statutes of limitations has closed. So they’re up a creek without a paddle with that one.

I think Flake wants to vote no in committee (just to be an ass) but wants cover. And this gives him cover. But Grassley is being very fair and the democrats aren’t. So I think it will be Flake that will be forced into a corner (though he’s out of office next year and might not care).

But moderates always like to appear to be reasonable, and voting no just based on an accusation alone is not reasonable. So Flake may vote Aye in committee and plan on defeating Kavanaugh on the floor.

We’ll be SO better off when these types are gone. Murkowski would be gone already but for McConnell and Cornyn supporting her independent run. We wouldn’t have to worry about Joe Miller’s vote. But they do this stuff on purpose. Water over the dam.

Back to my original statement. I don’t know.
