Senate Democrats have referred a letter concerning Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to the FBI for investigation.
This matter has been referred to the FBI for investigation, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat and a member of the Judiciary Committee, told BuzzFeed News on Thursday about the letter.
A source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Hill that the letter had been referred to the FBI for investigation.
The letter has been the subject of days of intrigue on Capitol Hill but the contents of it have not been publicly disclosed by senators who have seen the document.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was given the letter by Calif. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D), according to multiple reports.
But Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, has refused to answer multiple questions about the letter over the past two days.
She confirmed in a statement on Thursday that she had referred the matter to federal authorities.
"I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further," Feinstein said.
"I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities," she continued.
Questions about the letter boiled over on Wednesday after The Intercept published a piece saying Feinstein had refused to share the content of the letter with other members on the committee.
Sources told The Intercept that the letter was relayed by an individual affiliated with Stanford University. Some sources told the publication that it was about an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school.

From the Intercept:
The specific content of the document, which is a letter from a California constituent, is unclear, but Feinsteins refusal to share the letter has created tension on the committee, particularly after Feinstein largely took a back seat to her more junior colleagues last week, as they took over Kavanaughs confirmation hearings with protests around access to documents.
The letter took a circuitous route to Feinstein, the top-ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee. It purportedly describes an incident that was relayed to someone affiliated with Stanford University, who authored the letter and sent it to Rep. Anna Eshoo, a Democrat who represents the area.
Different sources provided different accounts of the contents of the letter, and some of the sources said they themselves had heard different versions, but the one consistent theme was that it describes an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school. Kept hidden, the letter is beginning to take on a life of its own.

Oooooh, a secret letter.
I wonder if it was written in code or invisible ink?
The FBI reports to the DOJ. Instead of doing the right thing, flushing the letter down the toilet, Sessions will recuse himself, so will the FBI chief Wray, and they will let Ohr will handle it.

Letter was originally written by Christopher Steele based on text from Peter Strzok and Lisa Page and signed off on by Comey.
High school. Ok
High School Huh?
Let me guess, he peed on Nancy Pelosi in a room once rented by Chuck Schumer.
Whatever happened in high school is now a disqualifying offense.
Dems dont care how old it is as long as it blocks Kavanaughs ascension to the Supreme Court.
Mission accomplished.
This scandal will disappear more quickly than a prom dress.
Calling Buckhead.
Okay, who won the poll that predicted the date the dems would drag out the harassment charges?
He went to Georgetown Prep...an all boys school.
If this is true, then the FBI should be a black hole for this letter.
The FBI has no role in investigating such matters -- even if it occurred last week.
