I realize that this is a months-old article, and that it will ruffle a few feathers, but perhaps we should consider that this affects the FUTURE OF OUR REPUBLIC AND WORLD.

Science proving what average, normal human beings always understood in the past.

Shocked.

Nobody saw this coming.

Completely unexpected.

This also seems to be observations and conclusions from ONE psychotherapist in NYC, and maybe it should not be taken as anything else. JMHO

A Letter From The Nanny

...I want to address all of the working mothers, working pregnant women and those considering having children in the future, because I’ll tell them what none of their friends will.

I do not love your children. That’s right. As much as you would like to think I love them and treat them as my own, the reality is I CANNOT love your children. I did not give birth to them. I did not bond with them. I am doing a job for a paycheck. (snip)

Agreed. This is true. No other mammal is this heartless to their babies. If you’ve got grandma there, or a long term loving nanny, that does help. But it would be best if it’s mama or Daddy full time with that little one.

I have to say that La Leche League helped me value motherhood and early childhood bonding. I didn’t nurse for years like some of them do, but I got the point that when a kid is bonded, he trusts you and he will cooperate with you. Both of my kids are teens now, but they still actually trust what my husband and I tell them, and they tell us what is going on, pretty much. (I don’t want the gossip and stuff.) They are well-grounded, for their age and personality types.

I noticed this obvious trend when I was working in the print/online world. The women who became pregnant would work until their due date, then rush back to work as soon as they were physically able, as if they were afraid of missing something. I couldn’t help but wonder who was taking care of the baby. Only one former colleague quit working to see to her newborn.

Where is Meryl Streep to yell, “What are we doing to our children!”?

As if a shrink’s opinion is worth a plugged nickel.

Trolling for $. Just another ploy to get even more kids on pharmacology.

We were fortunate at the time (20 years ago) the wifes company would let the new mothers stay out (unpaid) 6 months - it was great.

I couldn’t agree more and have since the mid-70s when all my friends went to work and put their kids in daycare. I did w/o new cars, new houses, cute clothes, all the new inventions to stay home with my kids.

My wife could have gone back to a (multiple) six figure career and we could have kept an S class and range Rover in the garage, early retirement and lived even better than we do.

Instead we have polite, smart, loving, and well adjusted offspring and there is nothing we would trade that for.

I do not believe this is intended to encourage women to quit working outside the home. I see this as a push to demand paid maternity leave for as long as one year, made mandatory for all employers.
Wait for it.

This is hugely well-documented. Just for starters, read "The First Three Years of Life" based on 37 years clinical experience of Harvard psychologist Dr. Burton White.

Absolutely true, absolutely stunning, and somehow just as you always knew.

News Flash: babies need their mothers. Their mothers.

MAMA MIA! Their mothers.

Will the Banshees start howling about this? Or will they just ignore it and hope the dumbass public doesn’t find out about it?

The object of schools now is to diagnose children with “something”. It’s all about the money.

My wife attempted the work/daycare approach. We quickly realized our son was being raised by the daycare staff with crappy values. My wife exited the work world until my sons were in high school/junior high.

Even in my ultra liberal Kaiser maternity ward in California, the nurse told me and my wife when we were if she could give one bit of advice it was, “Don’t let anyone else raise your kid for you”.
