Rosenstein Asks Prosecutors to Help With Kavanaugh Papers in Unusual Request
The New York Times ^ | July 11, 2018 | Katie Benner

WASHINGTON — Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, has asked federal prosecutors to help review the government documents of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, according to a letter obtained by The New York Times on Wednesday.

Mr. Rosenstein’s request was an unusual insertion of politics into federal law enforcement. While the Justice Department has helped work on previous Supreme Court nominations, department lawyers in Washington typically carry out that task, not prosecutors who pursue criminal investigations nationwide.

But in an email sent this week to the nation’s 93 United States attorneys, Mr. Rosenstein asked each office to provide up to three federal prosecutors “who can make this important project a priority for the next several weeks.” Names were to be submitted to Mr. Rosenstein’s office by the end of Wednesday.

The NYTimes quotes a Democrat who doesn’t like this.

Hasn’t this guy stalled provision of documents to Congress for months, or am I conflating issues?

This man is dumber than I thought! He’ll inject himself into something so political? That’s the path to exposing himself to the American people as a mere partisan. This moron is as dumb as Obama and the rest, only able to get away with their crimes because of sheer numbers—all the lawyers and all the media being on their side—and not because they are so good at getting away with things.

Rosenstein is brazen. Everyone is afraid of him because he can turn the powers of the DOJ on anyone.

Make no mistake, Rosenstein is the de facto Attorney General. Sessions works for him. Rosenstein is a viscous, partisan political operative who has weaponized the DOJ and he refuses to be accountable to anyone.

How much longer do we allow him to wield police state like power?

I guess they didn't notice Obama and crew using the power of government against a candidate from the other party.

Like I said on another thread yesterday...just get the FBI to scan all the documents as quickly as they scanned Hillary’s 650,000 emails.

Should the DOJ emblem include a picture of a Donkey or would that be too obvious?

He want 300 people to do this. 300 people working for several weeks. And this is not even his job. Where is the letter authorizing this investigation?

None of this makes any sense at all. Who reported this to the Times and what is their purpose in publishing it?

I don’t understand why Trump doesn’t fire Rosenstein and tell Mueller you have until the end of July to wrap up your investigation or you’re going to be fired as well.

After reading the full article, it looks like Trump might have ordered this - He is getting the DOJ ready to submit any docs the Democrats request in a quick manner, so they can get this through the Senate quickly.

“I guess this guy truly is untouchable.”

It’s like the DOJ/FBI have morphed into a whole new fourth branch of government, with no accountability to the American people. This is surreal, if true.
