The president is expected to nominate a conservative to replace the justice who authored most of the pro-LGBT decisions of the last 20 years.
President Trump's coming announcement of his nominee to fill Justice Anthony Kennedys seat on the U.S. Supreme Court has many members of Americas LGBT community understandably on edge. The stakes for LGBT people are enormous, given Kennedy's history of embracing LGBT people under the constitutions protections and questions about whether a new Trump-appointed justice may turn the court in a very different direction.
Though LGBT rights have come a long way since Kennedy began authoring pro-LGBT decisions for the court in 1996, there are numerous important sexual orientation and gender identity cases currently pending in our nations courts. A nominee without Kennedys respect for the equality, liberty and dignity of LGBT people could well do grave damage to the progress thats been achieved.
For instance, whether the government has the power to require businesses to treat same-sex couples the same as others or whether, instead, business owners have a constitutional right to discriminate is still pending after the court's narrow Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Ok...not seeing the downside...
Fearmongering contd. ad nauseam....
What is a LGBT right? Is it different from, say, a plain-old garden variety right?
Well, we can hope....
I sincerely hop the travesty of “gay marriage” is over turned.
Marriage had a meaning for 5,000 years and black robed tyrants cannot redefine it for US all.
I was just about to ask the same thing. “Marriage” is a right? What other “rights” are they talking about?
Eh, we just want to come out of the closet and live in peace. Honest!
The nation signed on, and we've never heard the end of it.
Somewhere along the line, when grown men were allowed to go into little girl's restrooms, some of us said, "You know, years ago folks tried to tell us where this would wind up."
Well, we're there.
They’re worried about “gay marriage” being overturned.
It should be.
We the people have spoken repeatedly that we did not want marriage redefined so they just imposed it on US.
...damage the progress that’s been made on LGBT rights
“...roll back the insanity regarding LGBT “social justice activism.”
Yet again the left wing media are scaremongering.
How about instead of writing he will nominate a conservative, why not he will nominate a Constitutional law abiding judge.
Oh, please, there’s never been a Republican President that’s been as LGBT friendly as Trump, ok so he doesn’t march in the Pride Parade’s or anything like that, but he has no issues with gay people per se.
What he doesn’t go for, is the radical gay agenda.
You cut to the core of what the SCOTUS actually did: Their decision was nothing more than forcing, from the bench, the redefinition of a word.
Good question!
And their rights according to them should always top any other enumerated right of citizens.
NBC News makes this sound like a bad thing,i.e. for the Supreme Court to go back to interpreting the constitution as written.
Satan is as Satan does. Lies, destroys, and kills.

The horror.
The Horror...
Fixed it for you.
