A NEW Syria is emerging from the rubble of war. In Homs, which Syrians once dubbed the capital of the revolution against President Bashar al-Assad, the Muslim quarter and commercial district still lie in ruins, but the Christian quarter is reviving.
Churches have been lavishly restored; a large crucifix hangs over the main street. Groom of Heaven, proclaims a billboard featuring a photo of a Christian soldier killed in the seven-year conflict. In their sermons, Orthodox patriarchs praise Mr Assad for saving one of the worlds oldest Christian communities.

SUCCESS!...................
I confess that I have had a lot of trouble following the Syrian affairs.
I think Assad is bad, but probably the least bad of anyone over there.
I couldn’t tell what side Obama was on, but I’m pretty sure it was the terrorists.
I couldn’t tell what side Trump was on, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the terrorists.
I have no idea if Trump is happy with the current outcome.
I have no idea if Putin is happy with the current outcome.
If we had actual journalism in the US, I’d probably have a better understanding of this matter.
What a waste of life has been the Clinton/Obama Arab Spring
Assad protects minorities. McCain’s head-choppers slaughter those who resist Wahhabi Islam. Enough said.
Notice the lack of people in the picture. That’s because they have headed to Europe where they’d like to continue doing Urban Remodeling.
Is that downtown Detroit? Baltimore after a riot?
Give us a clue here. Thanks.
Good summary. I agree that the Syria situation is virtually impossible to unravel unless you follow it very closely, and even then it might be difficult to know who all the players are and what the best outcome might be.
Thatll work for me.
Which is why Obama, Clinton, and Kerry said he had to go.
Part of Damascus, I think. The Democrat part............
I suspect the real purpose of the “Arab Spring” was to install Muslim Fundamentalists in power (as in Egypt). In turn, these clowns would ruin their countries and spur mass migration to Europe and the West. We’ve seen some of that to be sure, but it would have been much worse if it were fully “successful”.
Oh, and somewhere along the line, they would all gang up on Israel.
We should have been backing him all along
Why waste your money traveling to 3rd world sh!tholes when you can see on right here in the good old USA!................
I’m good with this. I think the main problem is that Israel prefers chaos in Syria as a strong, unified Syria would be seen as a threat to them. And I say this as someone who is generally supportive of Israel.
What did Hitler say? “In a thousand years you won’t recognize Germany” or something like that.
You win the Internet with that summary! Well stated.
Any country in the Middle East, if Christians are doing better than I’m pretty pleased.
Assad gets pressure from Eastern Orthodox organizations under Putin. If Assad wants continued Russian support, he must adhere to a secular system of govt even though Iran wants a Caliphate established across the Middle East.
