McConnell knows he only has 46 votes (if he has that many) to confirm another Gorsuch.
The closer the vote is to election day, the better - OK, let's say it should occur in early October, to maximize the campaign ads.
No one who could be confirmed by THIS Senate is worth having on the Court.
Maybe, but the summer is too soon to count on them.
The odds of them doing the right thing will be going up, substantially, after Labor Day and really will soar in October.
Democrats and liberals say that McConnell stole the seat that was supposed to be Merrick Garland.

Based on the obstruction and delays the Dems have shown with other judicial nominees, McConnell better start the process immediately upon receiving PT’s nominee.
Trump already has his list of 25 potential SC candidates. He’s probably calling each of them up to see who to submit.
Having a nomination might make the process work a little more smoothly.....
If Kagan could get confirmed in August of 2010, the I see no reason why Pryor (or whomever) can’t be confirmed this summer.

The list has been around since before the 2016 election. Perhaps a deletion or addition but the list is not new.

So while I defend McConnell for being too feeble to be useful here, it begs to reason if he’s too feeble to be useful in the Senate? The answer is a resounding no.

This shouldn’t take long - whomever is nominated is sure to have had a detailed background check not too long ago, so that only needs to be updated and shouldn’t take more than a few weeks at most.
