A pack of seven dogs with legs shorter than an adult hand attacked an Oklahoma woman, inflicting injuries so severe she later died.
ARDMORE, OK A pack of vicious dogs, some of them described as predominantly dachshunds, or wiener dogs, mauled an Oklahoma woman to death last week. It's unclear what caused the dogs to attack Tracy Garcia, 52, outside her home near Ardmore on Thursday, but their owner could face charges, according to media reports.
One of the dogs was shot after charging at a Carter County deputy who responded to the attack, and the other six were euthanized at the owner's request at a local veterinary clinic, the reports said.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Bryant said the incident was "just a bad deal all the way around."
"This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation," Bryant told television KTEN. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims."
Original reports that the dogs that attacked Garcia were pit bulls proved not to be true, Bryant said.
The pack consisted of three females and four males ranging in age from about 1 to 3 years old. None of the dogs weighed more than 40 pounds or stood taller than knee-high. Their legs were described as shorter than an adult's hands.
Six of them were thought to be a standard dachshund and terrier mix, and the other was likely a border collie mix, shelter co-director Tena Layton told The Daily Ardmoreite. The oldest of the dogs was likely the mother of the others and may have been mixed with a border collie or similar dog, Layton said.
"A predominant breed in these dogs is definitely standard dachshund," Amanda Dinwiddie, the euthanasia technician at Ardmore Animal Shelter, told television station KXII. "They have really noticeable characteristics like their knobby legs, knees, very short legged dogs and their coats."
The dogs were covered in fleas and ticks, but otherwise in good health, Dinwiddie told the television station.
"We were cleaning ticks off ourselves all day," she said. "They are very covered; you can tell they have been living out in the woods."
Garcia's funeral was Tuesday. According to her obituary, she was a member of the Baptiste Family Band, which sang and played gospel music over the years. She is survived by two children, a son and a daughter, and two sisters. Her husband, Pedro, preceded her in death in 2006.
I thought this was going to be about Huma
Misleading headline. The main article from earlier today had a picture of these dogs. They are not daschunds . They are not wiener dogs. What is with the media in distorting the truth these days?
Mark another for the dogs are NOT God spelled backward column!
The techs stated it was clear they all had dachshund traits. Id think the owner, who requested they be put down, could verify that.
I usually expect so much more from patch.com.
Dachshunds Maul Woman to Death in Unusual Attack
Picture of what appears to be the older dog.
Article mentioned border collie mix, but looks like Doberman nose. much heavier than normal Weiner Dog.
Pitbull crosses. The vet already came out and said his tech that made the statement was a retard.
A local TV news report included clear pictures of the dogs, post-euthenasia. They may well have had dachshund in them, but they clearly also had pitbull (”terrier”) or rottweiler. It was obvious they weren’t purebred doxies. Also, as the article states, the owner hadn’t been taking care of them. All of the dogs had been roaming wild for some time and were covered in fleas and ticks.
I read an article yesterday about this. It said that the dogs were pit bulls and pit bull mixes according to the vet who euthanized them. There was also something about the shelter or someone wanting to hide that fact.
Fer crissakes, why not just stomp on the damn rat?
At least he apparently hit it, with unstated number of rounds expended..........
It feels like you have to really try hard to be killed by a pack of weiner dogs.
A “pack of wieners” puts one in mind of sausages ...
Apparently they were pit Weiners.........
I wanted to see what a pit bull weiner dog mix looks like when it’s alive because the dead ones in the pictures upthread don’t have the heads/snouts of daschunds. Turns out that mix looks like a pit bull (land shark) with short legs.
THAT rings true...wiener dogs does NOT ring true!!
So sad. I hate many dog owners. They have no business owning a dog. They do nothing to keep them under control and let them bark and charge at people and do nothing. A lot of people in my neighborhood are like that.
I hope the lock owner of these dogs up for murder and kill all the remaining dogs.
