One consequence of the success of the National Rifle Association's expansive gun-rights agenda and its lobbying power in Congress is that groups favoring more gun control have pared down their ambitions in recent years.
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, for instance, no longer talks about banning handguns. Advocates have moved away from the term gun control in favor of more specific language like gun violence and gun safety. Democratic leaders in Congress have grown timid about proposing significant new restrictions on gun ownership.
In that context it's a bit of a jolt to read an op-ed published Tuesday by retired Supreme Court justice John Paul Stevens titled Repeal the Second Amendment. Stevens is something of an expert on the issue, having considered the proper scope of the Second Amendment in the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller.

People who want 2nd Amendment repealed are totally ignorant about history. Only countries which cultivated bad dictators never had 2nd Amendment equivalent in their constitution. Examples:
Stalin in Russia
Mao in China (murdered more dissidents than any one else)
Hitler in the Third Reich of Germany
Pol Pot in Cambodia
Mussolini in Italy
Half a dozen dictators in Pakistan
Mullah’s in Iran
Kim father & son in North Korea
Putin in Russia
Saddam in Iraq
Assad in Syria
Gadhafi in Libya
General Than Shwe in Burma/Myanmar
Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe
Paul KAGAME in RWANDA
Omar AL-BASHIR in SUDA
The list goes on.....NONE had 2nd Amendment!!
Those who ignore history will be doomed to repeat it.
It wouldn’t matter if it was 4 out of 5. We are a republic with a Constitution and Bill of Rights. Mob rule doesn’t work here.
Meadow muffins Ingraham.
Self defense is a natural right.
Ain’t gonna happen anyway. All this is just mental masturbation.
Something the WaPo knows a lot about.

It would be wise for them to consider that the guns protect the 2nd amendment as much as the inverse is true.
All they have to do is convince 2/3 of both houses of Congress to pass it then have 3/4 of the states ratify it. It would be the end of Claire Wolf’s awkward stage.
And it also takes 2/3 of Congress and 3/4 of that States to pass a Constitutional Amendment. I bet most of the 2/5 who want a change live in 3 states: California, Illinois and New York, so this is simply not going to happen.
They need a big war with a draft and everyone in America doing their part to defeat the enemy; a communist, fascist, or Muslim faction no doubt. Everything the left is.
When the jump to the other side we will finally be rid of them forever. Well; at least that batch.
So, one in five want to disarm African-Americans; I know what’s next.
Ask enough Americans and a fraction of a percent or so will say they want to be a firetruck.
I’d bet 90% of those asked do not know the 2A.
Jaywalking comes to mind.
Interesting.
About 20% of the U.S. population are not able to exercise half of Second Amendment rights in their state.
Also, they need 38 states for a Constitutional Amendment. I hope and pray that they try to do this. I wold love to watch the Tide Pod Generation, Democrats and pink hats crash into reality at full speed.
Of course what they really want is just one more Supreme Court "Justice" who will rule that it doesn't mean what it says.
Yeah. So glad I had actual schooling.
One in 5 Americans cannot tell you what the Bill of Rights is, what document it’s appended to, nor how many Rights are discussed therein.
One in five Americans could not have made that calculation...
That's pretty good news from our perspective, the Post is trying to make it sound like that's good news for gun grabbers.
I’ve always thought the hardcore leftists comprise 30 to 35% of the voters.
It is astoundingly good news that it’s only 20%.

Pure agitprop.
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
Thomas Jefferson
I think what gets lost in the 2nd Amendment debate is that WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE MILITIA. So if the right to bear arms cannot be separated from the everyday citizen as they have the RIGHT TO FORM A MILITIA TO OPPOSE GOVERNMENT TYRANNY AT ANY TIME WE CHOOSE.
