One consequence of the success of the National Rifle Association's expansive gun-rights agenda and its lobbying power in Congress is that groups favoring more gun control have pared down their ambitions in recent years.
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, for instance, no longer talks about banning handguns. Advocates have moved away from the term gun control in favor of more specific language like gun violence and gun safety. Democratic leaders in Congress have grown timid about proposing significant new restrictions on gun ownership.
In that context it's a bit of a jolt to read an op-ed published Tuesday by retired Supreme Court justice John Paul Stevens titled Repeal the Second Amendment. Stevens is something of an expert on the issue, having considered the proper scope of the Second Amendment in the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller.

Abortion is NOT in the Constitution..when will that be repealed
This particular outlet lies outright, often.
That means that the survey gave much worse numbers then if they had conducted a non-biased, non-lying poll.
AMERICANS WANT TO KEEP SECOND AMENDMENT 5 to 1 !!
In NO math class that I ever attended, was a group of 20% considered to be the majority. I want to puke when I hear Libs, ON FOXNEWS, talk about the 70% of Americans that want some gun control. AND THEY ARE NEVER CHALLENGED!(Tucker, are you listening?)
1 in 5 are probably illegals, criminals , 18 year olds and life welfarites
What is their point?
One in five Americans would be happier living in a Communist Country, too. We should arrange for their transport to said place rather than permit them to fundamentally change America into one.
Yes but we must let those who share the minority position be the winners in this. /sarcasm
Actually 4 to 1 but still overwhelmingly.
Assuming the nation was split in the 2016 election and 100% of Trump voters are for the 2A that means that 60% of hiLIARy voters support it as well (20% X .5 = 40%).
Someone check my math — it is the end of the day.
“The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, for instance, no longer talks about banning handguns.”
This sort of thing is right then and there disingenuous in it’s tone in that all you had to do was tune in to some of the genuinely hateful, spiteful rhetoric expressed Saturday at the marches in DC and elsewhere, not to mention leading up to Saturday’s events.
1 in 5 are idiots.
More than half want abortion to be banned or at least back in states hands as there is no enumerated power for it in the constitution .
Neither is gay marriage or paying for prisoner sex changes.
1 in 5 are idiots.
A headline that says 80% of the American people want the 2nd Amendment left alone doesnt push WaPos agenda as well as saying 1 in 5.
That 20% has the right to not have a gun.
That minority does NOT have the right to deny me my rights.
It only takes majority representation in 13 smallish Midwest and Western states to prevent a repeal from happening. 1 in 5 nationally gets you loud demonstrations in liberal cities and little else.
