Now Tarantino is working on a film about Charles Manson.
Sharon Tate's family want none of it.
They should have, it was awful.
Yes, they did.
Sharon Tates Sister Calls for Aquarius Boycott: Its Extremely Insensitive
Harvey Weinstein was involved with this project at one point; he and Polanski hang out together.
“She also fumed that Jennifer Lawrence, who was rumored to be attached to the film when it was first announced, wasnt pretty enough to play her slain sister.” -—From the article
And she’s right.
An unfortunately side effect of being related to people who died in a famous way is that you never really get to get past it. There’s always going to be another movie, or documentary, or book, or new story. I understand it sucks for them, but that’s just how it works. The 50th anniversary is next year, right between the 50th for the moon landing and Woodstock, it WILL come up, you can’t make it not.

I wouldn’t go for the fact that I can’t stand either of those actors. Especially Leo.
Sharon Tate was a beautiful girl.
That is about all I know about her other than she was murdered by the Manson gang.
Not a surprise. Two peas in a pod. The bigger question is how did that link in to the killings.
Sharon Tate
You’re right about that. I’m friends with a woman whose uncle, a cop, was killed by a famous Black Liberation radical. Every time celebrities and other Libs start taking up the radical’s cause or talk about the incident in a way that distorts what happened and disparages her uncle, it causes the family (a blue collar family without a lot of money) a lot of pain.
I guess what we CAN hope for is that no baby boomers go to the movie, watch the documentary, or buy the book and that everyone younger is completely disinterested in the whole Manson deal and the tragic story of Sharon Tate.
A money-losing movie might help for the victims’ families to have a chance for some peace.
“Sharon Tate was a beautiful girl.”
At that time, she was considered by many to be the most beautiful woman in the World!
I don’t know if we should hope for that. The Manson situation in particular is a vital thing to remember, we’re spawning another generation of disaffected youths in this country. There’s a lot of useful warnings about what can happen in the Manson story. They won’t get any peace, it’s just too big a cultural touchstone.
I was watching a doc about the Clutter murders (In Cold Blood) a bit ago and they talked to surviving townsfolk and family about how the story just won’t go away. Some folks understood, some didn’t, everybody agreed they sure wish it would even though they knew it wouldn’t. As long as mid-20th century US history is a topic of discussion both the Clutter and Manson slaying will be part of that.
Why do they think I would have any interest in following the story of drug addled insane people culminating in one of the grisliest murder scenes ever?
I feel for them. While being part of the problem. I watch a lot of documentaries and movies about these major culturally scarring events. I’d probably look at the whole industry differently if I was actually tied to one of those events, I can conceptualize the pain, but I don’t feel it myself.
I saw an interview with Linda Kasabian two years ago. She said the screams coming from inside the Tate home were so horrifying that she couldn’t tell if they were male or female.
