An explosion levelled a building in the city of Leicester in central England, Sunday, in what local authorities have called a “major incident”.
Leicester police say that a “massive explosion” destroyed a building on Hinckley Road which reportedly housed a Polish shop called the Western Park Store, as well as a private home.
“All emergency services are currently dealing with this” local police tweeted, urging locals to “please avoid the area.”
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Local emergency response teams have yet to report any casualties from the incident.
Six firefighting units have been dispatched to the scene to battle a blaze sparked by the explosion.
A witness told the Leicester Mercury a “massive” fire erupted at the scene seconds after the explosion.

Nope, that was Coventry. Guess it could have been an old bomb. They do still turn up from time to time. Judging by the flames though id guess natural gas, though.

Happens every winter in the NE US.
About every other year at least one building is flattened somewhere in my county—usually on a single digit day.

The story that Churchill allowed Coventry to be bombed is almost certainly apocryphal. It conflates enigma decryptions and navigational beam intelligence. Their is a related story that the British cleverly “bent the (navigational) beams” to cause the Luftwaffe to bomb Dublin. The assertion is rubbish. The bombing of Dublin was a simple navigational error. The intended target was Belfast.

I believe we sent four B17 groups, about 80 aircraft to bomb in daylight. The Brits sent about 400 to 500 RAF Sterlings and Lancasters on two nights. The Lancs because they bombed at night were not weighed down with the defensive arms and armor of the Forts and carrie twice the bombload. There was nothing in the design that remotely resembled an effort to bomb specigic targets in the city.
The danger of leaking gas is that when it explodes in a confined space under the right conditions, it becomes a fuel-air explosive bomb. And we know how destructive a fuel-air explosive can be.
It was the NRA with and elephant disintregrator assault rifle. It had to be.
