And in The Angry Silence by John Burke, “being sent to Coventry” was an idiomatic expression meaning ostracism, based on that decision by Churchill to not tell Coventry they were about to be bombed.

Considering that the expression was in use in the 1800's I doubt it.

"The cause of the explosion remains unknown."

And it will stay that way if muzzies are involved

OK. I concede my ignorance of this Britishism, then. That’s what I had thought.

Then the British basically incinerated Dresden, which was supposedly payback for Coventry.

In 1977, Air Marshal Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris was asked. if he had it to do over again, would he do anything differently? He answered, "If I had the same time over again, I would do the same thing. But I would always hope not to have the same time over again."

There are two times when natural gas is considered explosive is when it’s first leaking inside a building and the fuel/ air mixture is between 4 and 15% gas. The second time is when venting the structure after the leak is fixed and the air/ fuel mix passes through the 4-15% again.

It strikes me that a fully automatic .458 magnum might make a good elephant disintegrator.

Britain and Europe are getting a strong cold wave down from the Arctic, while the Arctic is having relatively warm weather. Recent past British winters have been relatively mild.

“Being sent to Coventry” has a centuries old history. The link below includes comments from various people and includes most of the material at Wikipedia and other sites. It has nothing to do with Churchill.

https://www.quora.com/Where-does-the-phrase-to-send-someone-to-Coventry-originate

Here is a site explaining details of Churchill’s and defense force actions in the days leading up to the Coventry bombing. Also an article explaining the military importance of Coventry as a “legitimate” war target and previous deadly air raids there.

https://www.winstonchurchill.org/resources/myths/coventry-what-really-happened/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coventry_Blitz

Finally some have tried to say Dresden was NOT a legitimate military target which this article refutes. A significant factor was that unknown to the Allied Dresden’s anti-aircraft guns had recently been shipped to defend the Eastern Front. https://www.hdot.org/debunking-denial/d1-dresden-military-target/

Following the bombing of Coventry's mediaeval cathedral in 1940, the Provost, the Very Revd Richard Howard, had the words 'Father Forgive' inscribed on the wall behind the Altar of the ruined building. [The Cross of Nails in Coventry Cathedral (Photograph; Patrick Comerford, 2011)]

Yup.

Plus they do not bury their water pipes and other supply pipes as deep as they do in most of America.
