I believe we sent four B17 groups, about 80 aircraft to bomb in daylight. The Brits sent about 400 to 500 RAF Sterlings and Lancasters on two nights. The Lancs because they bombed at night were not weighed down with the defensive arms and armor of the Forts and carrie twice the bombload. There was nothing in the design that remotely resembled an effort to bomb specigic targets in the city.
