ACRAMENTO With the reading of their own version of a Declaration of Independence, founders of the state of New California took the first steps to what they hope will eventually lead to statehood. CBS Sacramento reports they don't want to leave the United States, just California.

GO JEFFERSON!
Where is Acramento?
The confederate states should have been able to leave and the only reason they were prevented from doing so was the vast amount of tax revenue they paid to the federal government. It is the same reason this will be prevented from happening.
It sounds like the non-urban areas want to be separated from the southern urban areas, because of the way they are governed.
I understand their rationale. Don’t know how this works...they make it sound similar to the way West Virginia was formed as an independent state.
If the Constitution supports this type of activity, I can go with it.
I am in Orange County. The map shown is cut off so I cant tell what happens to us. Does anyone know? If Orange County is in the new state sign me up.
They aren’t talking about leaving the USA, only California. Think of the way West Virginia and Virginia were separated as an example.
Not at all like the secession of southern states.
The yellow counties are the primary source of Kalifornia’s insanity.
It doesn't. The Constitution expressly forbids creating new states from already existing state's land without the consent of that state's government.
Meaning the California State Assembly would have to vote to approve this. I'm sure that's going to happen.
I formally recognize New California and welcome them to the United States.
Enough coastline to support offshore drilling. Where are the national parks on the map? Would we lose the Reagan Library? It could be relocated.
Orange county is part of the blue-colored region of the map. If that’s in the “new” California, then you’re good to go.
Orange county shows up as blue
Then make Old California a Protectorate. Those people obviously cannot govern themselves.
This would make sense to me, as it would lead to much more meaningful representation for those not in urban coastal areas.
OC is in New California.
Acramento is the name chosen for the capital of New California....I think.
Contra Costa fell some time ago, let them have that too but take back Sonoma...lot of decent farm people up there.
