They aren’t talking about leaving the USA, only California. Think of the way West Virginia and Virginia were separated as an example.

Not at all like the secession of southern states.

This would make sense to me, as it would lead to much more meaningful representation for those not in urban coastal areas.

I would argue that it.. and the American Revolution..are the same in the sense of trying to escaope horseshit government.

Only because Virginia seceded from the union was West Virginia able to be created.

California keeps refusing to enforce federal laws and threatening to secede. Hopefully lawmakers can use these actions and threats to create “New California”, although I would prefer that “Jefferson” also be created out of the counties of Southern Oregon and Northern California, that have long sought independence from Oregon and California.

Here’s a little piece of history concerning California’s dance with secession from an article by D.J. Welder in July 2017:

“The California legislature (described as “intensely pro-slavery”[ii]) passed the Pico Act in 1859, calling on Congress to divide the state. It was signed by Governor John B. Weller, overwhelmingly approved by voters in Southern California,[iii] and sent to Washington.”

Can Congress revisit the Pico Act of 1859, view it along with current statements and pronouncements concerning secession, and use this to create New California and Jefferson?

Would the Dems go into panic mode?
