By definition, it is not possible for an individual to be "diverse".
I suspect a very basic problem is that I never met anyone into comic books that wasn’t a white kid or guy. I see all these commercials now pushing boys’ toys on girls (Star Wars or Hunger Games weapons, for example); while the intent is clear, I have yet to see a real girl playing with any of these things. Just as many older girls turn away from the STEM stuff pushed on them, young girls don’t want light sabers or bows and arrows for Christmas...

Typical. LibTaints demand things in the name of “Social Justice” that nobody wants, apparently including them.
They always take established, popular comics to push these issues, and the story suffers to accommodate it. When sales drop, they’ll blame it on technology, people reading comics online, and the lack of open-mindness of the readers.
And don’t get me started on the new Doctor Who. Ratings have dropped almost a third since they started overtly pushing SJW issues and characters two years ago. This season, the Doctor changes gender because (after 50 years), it’s “time” for a female Doctor Who.
The simple truth is the problem isn’t the diversity of the characters.
It’s their shallowness.
SJWs can only deal with superficial diversity and usually can’t make a character that has any real depth.
The new Ms Marvel is a good example. They wanted it to be a lanky Muslim girl so badly they never thought of how she could be a good character and essentially projected their own superficial neurotic personality onto her. Compare it to non-white characters who are good, such as War Machine or Steel.
GI Joe, which in it’s popular form has always been diverse like America, was given to a card carrying socialist SJW who made random changes to characters which were unrealistic and just plain stupid. One of the latest issues had all the male characters failing to take down an attacking monster via tank, artillery, and aerial assault yet their black Samoan female takes it down singlehandedly with a shoulder mounted missile launcher loaded with literally tons of missiles.
Seriously, read some of their comics. It’s all tokenism with characters who have to constantly feel validation and are little more than Mary Sue tropes. Wolverine sees X23, aka female wolverine, and all he can do is gush over how much better she is than him as she effortlessly takes down the ninjas he was struggling and losing to.
Comic book fans want good stories with good characters. SJWs trash the old characters to make the new ones look better and the new ones still look terrible.
These novelties are like heroin. “Archie” got a quick sales rush by pushing a homosexual character, and got a whole bunch of perverts to buy a copy, because they got to the “wholesome” Archie brand. Now everyone else stays away from it as if it has an STD, and the homos have moved on, now that the novelty has worn off.
The interesting thing about this and the NFL suicide path (viewership down 25% in two years) is that these are businesses. Instead of seeking customers and making money, they’ve been taken over by SJW leftists who don’t care about the normal business concerns of, oh, making money, growth, market expansion. They only care about using their platform as a propaganda machine.
Vox Day has a couple great books about SJWs. He points out that they take over Human Resources. Easy to target for them and from there they remake the companies they infest. Start out with ‘rules of conduct’ and then purge those that don’t agree. Only hire people that think like them. Then turn the corporation into a propaganda arm. Companies, like the NFL, headquartered in New York are easy targets as finding a pool of SJW-bots to hire is easy there.
The companies then no longer care about profit or customers. Until the inevitable decline and mass layoffs, but the SJWs are so embedded in the company they - like a parasite - will stay and kill the host unless destroyed.
This is going on at many major companies. We just see the most obvious examples in the media spotlight - NFL, Marvel.
I was a big comic book fan (back when they cost ten cents).
My interest began to fade when SPIDERMAN appeared. Here was a super hero that really wasn’t. He had many personal problems and hang ups. My own life was full of personal problems and hang ups and comics were a fantasy world I could escape to. Marvel ruined that.
This was of course close to 60 years ago. I am sadden in how the left have ruined every thing from my childhood.
morality story’s are popular with young readers. currently most comic’s are not telling story’s that teach a black and white morality instead they are delving into the grey of life and not asking the reader to make value judgments on what is right and what is wrong. instead author’s are talking about a false doctrine of situational ethics where the idea’s of social justice creeps in and the reader is propagandized overtly that something that is normally considered wrong and evil is not as evil or wrong as they were taught by church and family. this is happening in almost all forms of entertainment because the decision makers currently are living very immoral lives.
It isn’t just the comics. I can’t stand watching a movie or TV show that panders to minorities by inserting a few where it isn’t logical. There are movies with all-black casts when it’s reasonable that everyone in the situation would be black.
