For years, the Washington establishment held up Sally Quinn, the wife of the late Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee, as the society doyenne par excellence and a serious reporter. The Great and Good would gather at her mansion to bat around the issues of the day. Much talk of a sinister religiosity afoot in the land would ensue. But it turns out that Quinn, when not passing around drinks and appetizers to these self-proclaimed rationalists, was in the back playing with her tarot cards and concocting hexes for her enemies.
In her new spiritual memoir, Finding Magic, Quinn discloses her ambitious forays into the world of the occult. The Washington Post, which had assigned Quinn to the religion beat late in her career, has greeted the revelations with understandable embarrassment. It assigned a review of her book to Senator Sherrod Browns wife, Connie Schultz, who reacts to the book with disdain:

Worth the click to read the whole article and the comments.
The author lays the blame on an infatuation with “reason”—truth be told, most of the societal problems we face began with rationalism and the so-called “Enlightenment”

Yes, the country is full of old ladies practicing the occult.
Back in the good old days ...

I’ve always wondered how she got the smell out of that old house...must have been magic.
What’s all this spirit world business? I thought Sexy Sally (circa 1974) was an atheist.
Very simply put. she had manure for brains as do most intellectually lazy liberals. Really easy for mental illness to set into a brainless fool like that.
When the house is empty and clean, guess who comes with all his friends to take up residence.
“Throwing around references to reason and science is now part of the daily patter of smug liberalism: Al Gore speaks of an assault on reason, Hillary Clinton treats the rejection of her campaign platform as a repudiation of reason, blogging celebrities who can barely craft a coherent sentence invoke reason, and so on.”
The article clearly references a misuse of the terms reason and science. Certainly there is no reason, objectivity or observation in the occult any more than reason would allow someone to list the objective success of any strictly socialist government that has ever existed for ant time. Unreasonable reason is our progressive plague.
When people stop believing in God, they won’t believe in nothing, they’ll believe in anything.
(maybe GCK, questionable)
Tolstoy said something similar!
Liberals have...made politics their religion....What they really want is liberal Sharia law, a secular theocracy. (Emphasis added)
The minimum wage, gender equality, nationalized health care, and global warmingwhatever their practical virtuesare not just expedient policy prescriptions. They are essential aspects of the liberal fatwa....Question them and you are not just wrongyou are a heretic.(emphasis added)
We are on the precipice. One fatal step and chaos ensues. We step back from the brink by affirming what we know to be true. God is Master of the Universe. There is no other God before Him. This fundamental Truth drives out all the lesser truths. We live the absolute truth of God’s presence in the certain knowledge that the world of lost souls hates us with a horror that kills our body but saves our soul.
There is some scientific evidence for the concept that our brains are hard-wired to believe in something. So people who reject Christianity fall into some really weird beliefs because of that biological imperative. And they think themselves "enlightened."
Satan is revealing his minions all over the place. Get ready, people. Jesus is coming soon.
Thanks Twotone, and I promise not to make (or check for) any "full deck" jokes.
