"Whose bodily fluids are they looking for? Is she a suspect? I don't understand why they're looking for controlled substances inside her home. I don’t understand why they’re looking for writings inside her home. The warrant does not explain that to me."
A cynical mind might assume that the police, having just killed an unarmed, pajama-clad woman right outside her home after she called 911 to report a possible rape, were searching her house to find something they could use to claim it was justified. Presumably they didn't find anything, or we would've heard about it by now.

Meaning, you don’t need to believe there was evidence of something in her apartment in order to search it. You need to look just in case something turns up, even if it might be unexpected.

I noted that the artile said they were granted permission. Which means no search warrant needed, and probable cause not an issue.

I assumed the article meant that the JUDGE had granted permission, although the article does nothing to make that clear. Images of the search warrant have been seen online, so probable cause was an issue. If they were already granted permission without a warrant, there wasn't much reason to go to the effort of getting one drawn up, was there?
Maybe they misread Jeff Sessions' new interpretation of the asset forfeiture laws. /s

It sounds like you'd be okay with the police getting a search warrant to search your residence, not to confirm their suspicions that you might be guilty of some criminal activity, but just to snoop through your belongings and papers to see if maybe they can find some evidence that you may have done something wrong that they aren't aware of.
In other words, this was a fishing expedition.

Hard to see any other explanation for the search. I don't think they were looking for anything to implicate her in any crime though. I think they were looking for anything they could use to demonize her in the press. Make the public think she deserved to die and that the world is better off without her.

NO the ultimate question is where did they find a judge who would sign off on the warrant!
Noor’s career is over, but they have to give him the due process. There may be a collective bargaining clause or civil servant protections that states that an officer cannot be fired until the internal affairs investigation is complete. That won’t be complete until the criminal investigation is complete.
IF he gets indicted, then they will move immediately to fire him.
I suspect that during the autopsy, something came back positive during the toxicology and they are seeking supportive evidence. They expect to be sued and are looking for mitigation.
