Zac Petkanas, Democrat National Committee Senior Adviser, appeared on Tucker Carlson’s TV show to explain the DNC position that a persons gender is what they say it is.
The argument is fraught with downstream impact, because if a person’s gender is what they say it is at any given moment in time – then there’s immediately no such thing as Sexism or gender driven ERA laws. You cannot be sued for hiring all males, because some of those males can instantaneously be women, and you’re not allowed to ask about their gender when hiring…. because it’s a protected category… see where this goes. It’s nuttery.

Tucker nailed him with the argument of Title IX. Earlier this month, Carlson welcomed ara Dansky of the Women’s Liberation Front to address that issue. She pointed out a major backlash for feminists.
“We think that ‘women and girls’ are a meaningful category worthy of civil rights protection,” she said. “If we define sex, under Title IX, to mean gender identity, what we’re essentially saying is that ‘women and girl’ can mean anyone who self-identifies as ‘women and girl,’ which makes the category ‘women and girls’ meaningless as a category.”

The DSM (the psychology ‘Bible’) long ago was converted from a manual to a political plaything.
Psychologists have always had to fight against claims that their field was not a science - this is why, in the old days, they were over-the-top with their sampling accuracy/statistics, peer review, repeatable results, etc. They wanted empiricism to reign (no pun intended).
Then homosexuality was arbitrarily reclassified in the DSM - probably by homosexuals - and the floodgates broke. Skepticism was replaced by indulgence. Science was replaced by emotion. And here we are.
