Cinnamon Cools Your Stomach, New Study Says

According to a new study published in the journal Scientific Reports, adding cinnamon to your diet can cool your stomach by up to two degrees.

"The results of the study, which used pigs, seemed to show that cinnamon maintained the integrity of the stomach wall," said study co-lead author Prof. Kourosh Kalantar-zadeh, from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

"When pigs feed at room temperature, carbon dioxide gas increases in their stomach."

"Cinnamon in their food reduces this gas by decreasing the secretion of gastric acid and pepsin from the stomach walls, which in turn cools the pigs' stomachs during digestion," he said.

According to the authors, when the pigs are hot, they hyperventilate, which reduces carbon dioxide production.

With cinnamon treatment, carbon dioxide decreases even further. This not only cools the pigs but leads to a significant improvement in their overall health.

"Altogether cinnamon cooled the stomach by up to 2 degrees Celsius," added study lead author Dr. Jian Zhen Ou, also from RMIT University.

"No wonder cinnamon is so popular in warm regions as taking it makes people feel better and gives them a feeling of cooling down."

This work is part of a bigger study into gut health using swallowable gas sensor capsules or smart pills.

Cinnamon is not the only spice with gut-cooling properties. According to Ayurveda (ancient [mostly Indian] healing and preventative medical science) coriander, cumin and some other spices are also cooling agents.

These "discoveries" USED to always start with "British scientists say..."

Cinnamon...big deal.
There have ALWAYS and ALWAYS been smart folks around, geniuses too, who figured out good herbs and spices THOUSANDS of years ago.

Another use for cinnamon is quitting smoking. When you get the urge to smoke just grab a cinnamon stick instead, it was a big help to me.

Very much cinnamon raises my blood pressure and I get real hot and sweaty.

This morning on TV they said Tumeric was the cure all for everything.

Cinnamon has antibiotic properties and also helps moderate your insulin response when you eat. I take it multiple times a day.

Unroll each roll and place a piece of bacon on them and then roll back up and cook as usual.

They still do that in Jr. High? The only time I ever got into big trouble in school was in 7th grade. Some tough kids stole my little bottle of cinnamon oil and rubbed some on the face of the fairest-skinned kid in the school. I took the rap. The tough guys, not so much.

The study’s conclusions are abject BS and do nothing but outline how backwards western medicine really is in regards to understanding the chemical signaling that triggers gastric acid production (let alone the rest of the enteric nervous system). Cinnamon has no effect on the stomach; its beneficial effect is in the colon.

Btw, if you’re taking prilosec, you’re worsening your health on the basis of lousy medical research.
