Do you know what today is?
Saturday, September 17, is of course a very important and underappreciated occasion which I believe should be a national holiday -- Constitution Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.
But it was on this date, September 14, that one of the most important provisions came into being, thanks to George Mason. It was Article V.
"The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate."
The Founders were smart enough to know that Congress would never propose amendments limiting Federal power, so if it became tyrannical, the only way was to give the sovereign states that power as well, when the people demanded it.
It's time to claim that power and make use of it.
Yep, it’s the day before the closing of the 1st half of the Mourning Dove season in N. Calif.
The Bill of Rights was ratified on September 25, 1787.
And an Article 5 convention would be monumental and long overdue.
George Mason sounds like a patriot and a man of foresight. He didn’t have to lift a finger to do the right thing but he did like so many others through our history and all Americans should appreciate that.
The Constitution was rescinded on January 20th, 2009.

Don’t wake the sleepin doofus ...
Thursday?
Well said.
History will not look well upon a people who gaffed off peaceful means to correct defects, deficiencies and corruption of their governing institutions.
Thursday?
Thank you.
Thanks for the ping.
One of a kind. There is no other like it!
For me there isn’t.
Written under siege. Classic!
Agreed. However, they did so in a time when the show was not being run by the uni-party. Today, the GOP would bend over backwards to give the left whatever they want in an Article V convention. One would be delusional to think otherwise, especially after the actions of the GOP in this election.
First, an Article V convention or Convention of States is not allowed to consider anything outside the call of the convention.
Second, 3/4 of the states (38) have to ratify anything that it produces.
Which is made by the State legislatures making the call. Those legislatures are made up of uni-party pols who like to talk about how "bipartisan" they can be. When the left sees that Article V is a forgone conclusion, that is when the backroom uni-party deals begin taking place. It goes something like this:
The Right: We want Article V!
The Left: Ok, we can get on board with that. BUT, if we do, gun violence must be a topic of discussion.
The right then does what it does best and rolls over for the leftists. Before you know it, anti-gun proposals are part of the Convention call.
Second, 3/4 of the states (38) have to ratify anything that it produces.
Again, this is not an issue for the uni-party. Once the amendments go back to the states, the uni-party deals REALLY gear up. It goes something like this:
The Left: Want these term limits here? Then we expect you to support this "common sense" gun amendment.
If you believe it will go down any other way, you are only fooling yourself. Anyone that says an Article V convention will be all unicorns and roses for the right is just plain crazy.
There is no way it runs away. The safeguards are in place.
So what do you propose to fix the situation? Article V is the best method we have.
