Flynn, 57, a registered Democrat but fierce critic of President Obama, previously ran the Defense Intelligence Agency.
The persons, who spoke with The Washington Post on Saturday, requested anonymity to discuss their private conversations in recent days with Trump

And we could have 8 more years of a Dem.
Amen!
I never thought I’d see the day where I’d see FReepers arguing for a Democrat as VP. If something happened to Trump on day 1, we now have 4-8 years of Democrat reign again. Unfathomable.
Yeah, not a good way to get the Never Trump Republicans in the camp (if it’s possible).
Did not know that, but I just looked it up. Bummer.
He can do better. I heard Flynn say with my own two ears, regarding the various government spying programs, “If you haven’t done anything, then you have nothing to hide.”
No, he wasn’t being sarcastic.
I disagree, we need Flynn to be appointed to the Joint chiefs of the military and let him be the warrior that we need. We need an articulate politician with vision, youth and leadership and courage to be vice president.
I like Paul Lepage, the French speaking Governor of Maine.
But, I’m thinking more and more for someone who is a known entity, and fearless when it come to talking to people.
Newt is unabashedly a conservative who will stand before a crowd of rabid blacks or latinos and speak to them in clear logic as to why they should support the ticket this year.
Sure, he has his negatives, but Trump knows talent, and knows the best. Newt is loyal, knows Washington, and people for the most part respect him.
This past weekend, he showed his character speaking to the media about Dallas.
Trump should pick Newt, anyone else, like this guy Flynn, looks goofy.
Flynn has the knowledge to guide Trump in choosing members of the military for those other positions, as does Jeff Sessions. With those two on board, we would have great confidence in the selection process, for both military and non-military choices.
One thing I’ll say in Van Jones favor is this. If you watch CNN, they have panels. One of the people on the panels is a pro-Trump person named Kayleigh Mcenany. She gets attacked from all sides because the panels are sometimes stacked 7-1 (although sometimes they are now giving her one ally) with the other Republican being a Never Trump Republican. Kayleigh has specifically said multiple times on Twitter that Van Jones is one of the nicest people at CNN, and he has publicly complimented her on Twitter.
I would like to see Jeff Sessions as VP. It seems unlikely, but I’m holding out hope.
Clip from the Darth Trump video.
While he definitely embellishes, he's not much on BS.
He'd be perfect for his wisdom, knowledge, and experience. It's probably not the best idea, though. One reason is that two guys in their 70s as Pres/VP might not be the best way to prepare for the future.
Another reason is the US Senate. I used to think that there were ten or twelve decent US Senators who would be on our side when things turn around. Now, the only one I'm really sure about is Sessions. There are some younger Senators with potential, but there are more who've infested the place for years who need to be kept under control. I can't imagine how that's done unless Jeff Sessions stays in the US Senate.
That’s a good point about needing him in the Senate. However, I don’t know if you support Newt or not, but Newt is 74 whereas Sessions is 69, so Sessions would be younger than Newt.
The General Flynn possibility just seems like the correct choice for the times. Even the ABC Sunday AM news team was speculating how Flynn would provide leadership with what's going on in US cities.
We need a steady hand that really understands how situations play out. The 'pub establishment being purged? They've done it to themselves!
He’s a registered Democrat. Where does he stand on any issue besides national security? He’s a registered Democrat for a reason. He’s obviously a smart guy. He knows what each party stands for, and he’s a Democrat. I’m all for purging the establishment, but with a Democrat? If Trump dies or can’t perform his job, you now have a Democrat President. He might do a good job on national security, but is he pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, for strong borders, fair trade deals, lower taxes, against Obamacare, and want to repeal Common Core? His strong national security policy won’t help if he puts a liberal on the court.
Adding, the ABC AM team liking him makes me even more concerned. ABC is Anything But Conservative.
I have much greater fear of those who bowed to the Republican establishment puppet masters to get where they are!
They don’t represent all the Republicans as there are those who have endorsed Trump. Not a single elected Democrat (other than Jim Webb) has endorsed Trump nor will they. Why are we mad at the establishment? It’s because they refuse to fight for conservative values. It makes no sense to teach the Republican establishment a lesson by picking a Democrat VP. That would be the equivalent of Bernie Sanders teaching the Democrats a lesson by picking a Republican, and you know no Democrat would ever do that.
