Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Wednesday that he was open to raising the federal minimum wage, breaking with the prevailing view of his party.
Im actually looking at that because I am very different from most Republicans, Mr. Trump said in an interview on CNNs. You have to have something that you can live on.

Will this be one of the handful of issues on which I disagree with Trump? Could be. But I also think it’s possible, even likely, that this is a deliberate attempt by Trump to demonstrate to swing voters outside the GOP that his approach is more a common sense approach, less an ideological one.
He said he would look into it, not that he would definitely support it. He has said in the past that he is against raising the minimum wage, and is smart enough to know that that’s not the way to build prosperity. When he comes back in a couple weeks and says that, after looking into it further, he doesn’t believe it’s the best way to grow the economy, he will be able to explain to some of the swing voters his reasoning and in the process demonstrate that is approach is one of pragmatism, not one of rigid ideological talking points. We’ll see.
Think about what Trump said when speaking to a Jewish organization a couple months back. He got some heat for saying that he would approach any negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians in a neutral way. He got a lot of heat from people who said that it indicated he was anti-Israel. But later comments indicated that his statement was more of an attempt to communicate his philosophy on process, rather than on the final outcome he would pursuit.
I think his comments on minimum wage could be viewed in a similar light. We’ll see.
You do not know what Marx said about Free Trade, do you? Should I post it for you?
Why should your brother or, for that matter, the taxpayer be responsible for the fat lazy slobs on his staff who can't support their six or eight fat lazy children sprawled on the couches and floors in their public assistance housing?
Looking at isn’t ensuring, I think this is posturing...
At least you didn’t call me a “Myopic idiot” I must be blessed. Your economic wisdom knows no bounds. /s sarcasm button off.
He didn't tell me they were lazy.
Just like the Brits sending missionaries to China and weeping over their pagan souls then fighting two wars to force China to allow them to import opium rather than allowing the mere government of China to restrain Free Trade. Meh, only a hundred million or so Chinese died due to opium, no worse than Mao, right?
And people argued over "who lost China" in the fifties in spite of the fact that the Nationalists took payoffs to allow the opium to flow freely while the Communists executed anyone selling opium.
Minimum wage issue is not the hill to die on and Trump knows that.
Don’t tie it to inflation.
Tie it to something like the SS increase, or some other thing the government conspires to keep to a minimum.
so the one year old conservative in name only (who was a steadfast liberal his whole life before he ran for office last year) is actually liberal after all?
Wow!
Just wait. More shocking news to follow for all who man-worship the trump.
...can’t wait to hear the glassy-eyed whine; “but, but, we had no idea!”
It’s GOING to get worse.
Hillary with a real pantsuit.
Has to be based on cohabitation because few can afford housing asca single.
Lmao
Agree
Good idea. Every three years adjust it to match whatever the increase in SS has been.
His GO pick will be a leftist. Guaranteed.
It’s the only way he might...Might...appear gop
Then why did he set out to climb it immediately? In his past rhetoric he has never been pinned to this issue. Don't think for a minute the MS media will forget it.
I haven't seen you shoot for humor in many of these threads.
But that hit the funny bone.
The minimum wage is a social justice construct and has no place in a free republic.
..to say otherwise is to say that socialism will always be better when the sun comes up and we figure out how do it right tomorrow
Well... nice random number.
Why not $30/hour? ...or $50
I’ve read Marx. I’ve read central_VA. I find little space between you two.
Btw, employees in public assistance are the beneficiaries of those subsidies, not employers. Despite what your left wing think tank brethern erroneously claim.
Liar.
