NEW YORK – After negative reporting of his religious views, the Christian evangelist father of Ted Cruz has returned to the campaign trail in an effort to win evangelical voters in Indiana, whose primary Tuesday is regarded by many as the Texas senator’s last hope to keep his bid for the Republican presidential nomination alive.

While the national media largely has been silent about Rafael Cruz’s re-emergence, local reporters in Indiana have covered his various appearances.

WSBT-TV in Mishawaka, Indiana, reported Rafael Cruz created “a lot of excitement” by showing up as a guest of Indiana Republican Gov. Mike Pence at a Wednesday night fish fry dinner of Kosciusko County Republicans.

On April 8, the Courier-Times in New Castle, Indiana, reported Rafael Cruz stopped by a local restaurant for an event that opened with a prayer from pastor Randy Gross and the singing of “God Bless America” by Christy Stutzman, the wife of Marlin Stutzman, a candidate for the Indiana state Senate.

Andrea Yaeter, reporting for the Courier-Times, noted Rafael Cruz discussed several “hot-button issues in the Republican party including education, gay marriage, abortion, states’ rights and the Supreme Court.”

Rafael Cruz said Washington didn’t need someone who was willing to buy out people to get things done, referring to his son’s Republican rival, Donald Trump.

“We do not need a deal-maker in Washington,” Rafael Cruz said.

What IS Rafael Cruz’s family situation? I have read stories where he is said to have abandoned his family in Canada to come back to the USA. Then Mrs Cruz and Ted returned to the USA. Did they live together as a family after that? I am just wondering as I am not sure I want another President from a broken family. They just seem to have emotional problems. Clinton and Obama come to mind. Not suggesting Cruz’s politics are anywhere close to those Dems, just wondering about Cruz’s background.

When Scalia was asked about Natural Born...the first thing out of his mouth was the phrase which would confirm that Cruz was NOT a Natural Born American Citizen as required by the Constitution.

Why did Ted wait until 2014 to disavow his Canadian Citizenship?? Because he feared his parents records would be opened and Canada did not allow dual citizenship at the time??

Getting his father involved in Indiana is Ted Cruz's equivalent of Jeb Bush getting his mother involved in New Hampshire. Admittedly, Indiana in late April is warmer than New Hampshire in January and Rafael Cruz does not need a walker as far as I know. Ted Cruz is desperate at this point and really needs a victory, even a narrow one, in the Hoosier State to remain viable. If he loses, the GOP Presidential primaries are effectively over.

Agree. I notice that no Cruz supporters have responded to explain his actual family relationships. His relationship with his wife seems dysfunctional, too. I do find her a bit of a Stepford Wife clone. Makes me wonder what she is really like, in person.

I question how anyone with a functioning intellect can convert from Catholicism to pentacostalism.

That usually is a sign of minimal intellectual capacity, a history of drug or alcohol abause, being divorced and bitter, purposeful ignorance, rebellion, stupidity, moral weakness or early onset dementia.
