If it succeeds in blocking a guy their grass roots supports want as a nominee, it should die. People like Graham, Boenher, McConnell, Cornyn,etc. did it. The GOP plan is to nominate Kasich on the third ballot at a “contested” convention and select Marco Rubio as his running mate.
I’m guessing the GOP offered Cruz a SCOTUS nomination if Kasich wins and/or heavy financial support for his Senate re-election campaign.
The GOP believes the “base” will “get over it, “ support Kasich/Rubio, and vote against Hillary. If Hillary wins anyway the GOP still wins.
That’s what’s coming folks. Get ready for it.
I doubt it will even go beyond a first ballot, so very overwhelming of this Trump movement.
I think each of the other candidates could honestly look forward to the same treatment, from Donald Trump.
And he’s more likely to beat Hillary. Much more likely to.
